You will find a shrine in the front of Mary placed within what appears to be lava structure.Only the other side of the church is a cemetery grounds which must have been moved from the former site.

Located high on the mountain above Kona, family owned Mountain Thunder Coffee is a wonderful visit with spectacular views on the way to the plantation.
We had a great tour guide who explained everything about making coffee; you can sample all their flavours and purchase coffee and tea from their shop on-site.

... on Saddle road it was amazing views of lava fields lava Fields as far as I can and then the beautiful mountains of greenery just beautiful and as you go down toward the end you can see the ocean just amazing view
Saddle road has been repaved in 2014 and offers a smooth ride from Waimea to Hilo passing between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, rising to about 6,500 feet, and offering several wonderful lava flow sites.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of their beautiful facility (with its amazing views) the well tended trees, the careful attention that goes into each batch of coffee, and of course, the tasting!
This is a perfect location with the constant island breezes keeping the temperatures lower and the jaw dropping view overlooking the valleys and coastline of the Kona area.

The cafe and restaurant at the beginning of the town serves delicious coffee and cookies and one of the gentleman took us for a short walk to enjoy a magnificent view back over Kona.
