- James CNew York City, NY265 contributionsLiving in ny all my life I finally got a chance to see the FDR museum and I was suprise how great the museum is.
All the pictures of the president and how he got the country out of a depression and through ww2 were there. I could see and feel how great FDR was. my tour guide was a gentleman named Eric and he had so much extra information it made it more interesting.Written 8 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The home and other buildings have a beautiful overlook of the Hudson valley. We were taken clear through the home with a guide who gave us lots of information about the house and the Roosevelts. I was impressed with elevator with which he was able to operate by hand with a large rope, to get to the 2nd floor in his wheelchair. I was amazed at the strength that must take. The home was nice, and quite interesting. It gave some insight into the day-to-day life of this president and his family.Written 23 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joyce SNorwalk, CT29 contributionsWe took my brother and sister in law as a birthday weekend. The owner was very informative. We had a great time walking the adorable alpacas and visiting the farm. The gift shop has so many cute things and the alpaca soap is amazing! I wish I had bought more of that! There’s plenty to do for the weekend as Rosevelt’s estate is right in the area, as well as the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park.Written 22 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - moodbluWest Valley City, UT1 652 contributionsLocated in Hyde Park, New York, the Culinary Institute was an interesting stop on our recent New England tour. It was fascinating to hear about the rigorous training, the expense of the students’ education, and the super success rates of the students’ job placements. We were allowed to see into some of the food preparation areas and classrooms. I was humored by a traffic sign we’d seen on the campus, which I’ll post a picture of with my review. The grounds at the campus were beautiful and well-cared for.Written 9 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katherine pBoston, MA205 contributionsI have admired Eleanor Roosevelt always and going to this very personal spot—the only home she chose and owned herself—has long been a goal. My friend and I were extremely fortunate to have our Park Service Guide Dan, passionate about her also as he said. He made this moving experience more so with knowledgeable details about her life, and particularly this spot. It is the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, thanks to her efforts it has endured and will. Fascinating to learn about the workshops at Val-Kill and do not miss the excellent film in what was a workshop.Written 30 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SeniorTravelerTFFort Atkinson1 249 contributionsIt can feel hectic, trying to fit in the FDR home, the museum and Eleanor's cottage - but don't overlook this gem. We did each of those (all good) and came back the next morning for this. You ride on a bus a short distance to the cottage built by FDR for a respite and secluded spot. The park guide gave us an overview of the small cottage, but the highlight was a gathering in chairs on the porch as the guide explained who had visited, discussions that took place, and how FDR used it. Almost a "your were there" experience because of the knowledge and wonderful story telling ability of the guide. You will get the same experience because the same guide has been presenting for years.Written 12 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - italiabella9Scranton, PA99 contributionsWe did the overlook trail which was fairly flat, not too strenuous and had nice views of the river and island. The top also has a large grassy area that would be nice for a picnic. This trail is NOT stroller friendly. We abandoned ours maybe .25 miles in and picked it up on the way back, but that meant carrying our 20lb 10 month old.Written 25 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - FamReun2013North Plainfield, NJ158 contributionsWe were lucky enough to stop by when it was open and we were able to see the displays inside and a train even came by. If the station isn’t open there is a signboard with the history of the station out front.Written 26 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Justin WHasbrouck Heights, NJ6 911 contributionsI was able to finally tour the Hyde Park Historical Society as it was finally open. The volunteer who was there that day told me that there are a lot of new members and the museum had just gone through a renovation and resetting of the artifacts.
The museum tells the story of the Town of Hyde Park and the surrounding areas. It has a display of bicycles when you walk in, displays on turn of the century clothing and accessories, pictures of the school system, the fire department, the police department and the businesses in the area. There are all sorts of artifacts from all the eras in the museum.
The volunteer that they are starting to remount everything so to come back and see all the changes that will be going on. There are also lectures and walking tours planned.Written 27 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lots of items, an amazing clock section, with a lovely selection of coppers which is always my main interest. I think, however, that the prices were a little steep. I did purchase two items, but the items I wanted most were just out of my range, though they were great pieces.Written 13 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
