Of course it is the greatest zoo we've been to. Of course the animals are amazing and in naturalized, educational settings. What is unexpected is the very friendly, very helpful staff and the supplemental children's activities: sculptures to climb, soft hills to slide, and the new Children's Zoo water adventure-feature with squirting spurts to cool and enchant. Do not miss this zoo!

This is such a great place to visit. The rose garden is lovely. It's huge and there's much to see. You can spend the whole day here. We did go on a Monday and most of the museums were closed but we did enjoy walking around seeing the gardens & just hanging out. We also enjoyed the Globe area where the arts and plays are held. We grabbed a snack at the coffee shop open which was quite good. It was connected to the Folk art gift shop which also had a few pieces to see. The best thing about it was free. We loved it and the Rose garden alone was a stand out. You will definitely get your steps in visiting this very large area.

A work-in-progress (aren't all layouts?) - this is a must for train fans of all ages. They display several gauge trains - O, HO and more - professionally done and absolutely wonderful to see. This is one of the best model train museums I have ever seen - so reaslistic looking and extremely well laid-out!

    HOLY COW!

The good - Good isn't enough to describe any part of this amazing experience.

THE GREAT! - Not one single flaw in this experience. From the ambiance of the theater, to the cast, to the set up of the seating, the sound system, the guest services, the concessions, and anything else I have not yet mentioned...Every aspect of this experience was great!

Why you'd avoid - If you don't like theater? . Really...if you like going to see shows this is an amazing place. If you are not a fan of watching live shows, this isn't the place for you though

The Spreckels Organ Pavilion is a beautiful building. Unfortunately, we did not realize that the pipes were only visible during concerts.

The gardens are flawless. The bonsai are very well cared for. The water features and huge koi are my favorite. There are so many people walking around but you can still feel the tranquility. I started my day here and it set a nice pace for relaxation and adventure.

The Timken Museum of Art is a great museum for anyone who enjoys art. Although small in size, there are beautiful pieces in the collection. It was free at the time we went and worth a visit while at Balboa Park.

They have a good cross-section of American and European art. Perhaps it is a little slimmer on contemporary art. It reminds me a lot of the Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco. They get decent traveling exhibitions too. It is not a large museum and can be viewed in its entirety. Be sure to check out the contemporary photography museum next door.

I found Hostile Terrain 94 to be a pretty powerful exhibit. Looking at the map where 3200+ people have passed away while attempting to cross the US-Mexico boarder really made me stop and think. To me, that alone was worth the visit.

We went to Balboa Park for the day and enjoyed seeing again the architecturally beautiful California Tower. We enjoyed seeing it. They were doing some remodeling of it when we were there.

If you are into cars/motorcycles, this is a nice way to spend about an hour. Small but well kept collection. I had never heard of "Louie Mattar's Fabulous $75,000 Car. It was worth the look.
