What travellers are saying
- D'Angelo F1 contributionHave done both rooms here and they were both very fun and challenging. Our game master was Monce, she was extremely nice and helpful when needed. They have a new room opening in a few weeks and we will definitely be coming back when it does!Written 18 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Zemirah LSan Diego, CA13 contributionsWe had a great first visit! Our group of 4 (Ages 43 to 13) had 2 Escape Room experienced players and 2 newbies and we all had a blast with The Diner. We didn't quite make the escape, it was very challenging and we were so SO close, but even with the near miss, we had a fantastic time. Our game master walked us through the rest of the puzzle before we left and was so nice. I could see we probably would have needed an extra 10 minutes to finish up even after the 3 bonus minutes he gave us once our timer ran out!
Parking there can be a challenge so give yourself some time to get a decent spot. There are lockers there to stow your gear. They even have a cute little sign that has a We Escaped notice on one side and We (almost) escaped! on the other. They'll offer to take your photo with it for that cool little keepsake memento as there are no cameras allowed inside the escape rooms.
We will definitely be coming back for our next great adventure and now that we all know what to expect will be bringing our A game with us! Thanks guys!Written 5 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - katelynchu55San Diego, CA1 contributionMy friends and I tried out Escape Game SD for a birthday. It was super fun. We tried out the Japanese Thriller room. It wasn’t tremendously scary which was good because it didn’t take away from the experience. I’ve been to other scary escape rooms that are way too scary to even attempt to find clues to escape. Would definitely recommend, specifically this room!Written 20 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Shayy S4 contributionsMy boyfriend and I have made escape rooms a part of our new activity experience when visiting new cities. We were visiting San Diego for the week and decided to do all 4 rooms because they were nicely decorated and the puzzles were exciting to solve. Our favorite room was the Science Room. There were 3 staff members (2 men and 1 woman) and they were very helpful and welcoming. They were the reason we decided to return back to complete the last two rooms. (October 11-12).Written 15 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Greg S1 contributionRed Door Escape Room in San Diego is amazing! Thank you for our two experiences thus far!! Bailey was so amazing! I wish I could have her every time. My kids had a blast.Written 23 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- overbugetSan Diego72 contributionsMy husband and I take our 6 grandkids out for a day in December. For years it was to see The Grinch in Balboa Park, this year we thought they had outgrown that play. So we decided to try an escape room. Thank you to all for the wonderful reviews of The House of Hints!! We all had so much fun! All the grandkids really had a good time..ages....21, 15, 13, 13, 11, and 10. We split into 2 groups and did The Detention Room so we could race each other. Great team work experience. Staff was fantastic!Written 9 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Benji H1 contributionWe had a really good time doing Deja Vu. The puzzles were just the right level of challenging for us, whenever I started thinking we needed a hint we would get a breakthrough. There were just two of us, so the somewhat linear layout of the puzzle worked great for us. Michael was an excellent host, and we will be coming back to do the Arcade in the future.Written 25 April 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Hazel JoyceSan Diego, CA11 contributionsThe guy that assisted us was very patient and made sure that the experience was gonna be top-knotch. There were a couple of hiccups but he fixed it the fastest way he can. Hence the 5 star review. Customer service is good.Written 10 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Abraham C4 contributionsI came here in a group of 4 and we are all big time escape room enthusiasts (40+ escape rooms completed). MindFox Escape stands out as a clear Top 3 for all of us. They have impeccable attention to detail, a clear passion for the craft, and are incredibly friendly and guest experience focused. Black & White Cafe and Moriarty's Manor are very different, but equally amazing rooms.
You absolutely will not regret doing an escape room here and supporting this amazing team!
p.s. they secretly have another room in the works, so your support goes directly into the creation of even more amazing rooms!Written 13 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - travelrusNewMexicoAlbuquerque, NM28 contributionsWe did the “Informant” and it didn’t cease to test out sleuthing skills. Within only seconds⏰ left we escaped! yayyyyyy. 3 of us have done an escape room before - 3 escape rooms, 1 had done 1 while the last had never. The 5 of us were needed to find all the clues since there were many mind challenging and creative clues with help here and there!🥸 it was a perfect size team and the use of means to keep track of clues was helpful! Overall
We were pleased! Far from professionals but not too shabby either!

Luckily my grandson was there and he figured most of it out. The family did the AI room and it is the best room ever. It was challenging but we finished one second before time was out. We will have to play this game again. In fact, we will play the other escape rooms.Written 17 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Natalia NNewbury, UK78 contributionsDespite it was our first escape room we “didn’t escape” from ( although we did crack the last puzzle but were too late to submit the answer!) we thoroughly enjoyed it! If we ever go back to Dan Diego, we are definitely coming back! Thanks very much for the experience!!Written 4 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- msbeachgirl10Duck, NC27 contributionsThis was different and a lot of fun! It took us awhile to find it as the address is a bit misplaced on Market St. Don't trust the address numbering system on this block :/ Anyway, it was fun from the minute we entered Houdini's escape. There were a total of 8 people in our group and I must say it was a bit confusing as you have to work as a team. Pretty chaotic and sooooo many clues (or not). Hard to determine what was happening. Our group did not make it out in time :( Pretty challenging for adults and certainly not kid friendly. A challenging and fun activity for teens and up.Written 14 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Ryan SSan Diego, CA2 contributionsI have done 2 of their 3 rooms and they are in the top 5 rooms in San Diego. The rooms have modern "second generation" style puzzles and great effects and sound. The rooms have cohesive stories within themselves and there is even an overarching story across all the rooms. Don't let the location and front lobby scare you off, the rooms are some of the best around.Written 30 June 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- UmmaBAtravellerVancouver, Canada409 contributionsWe did a bday celebration in the gooneez room the teens loved it . This is a really well done place . The props , rooms clues are all well done !!
