If you go, be sure to get the audio guide tour. The audio is extremely well done and provides lots of background and interesting stories. The house jam packed with artifacts, all with a story. It is small but definitely worth visiting.

It’s an exceptionally beautiful building located in a prominent avenue of the lovely Gaslamp area.

Three storeys plus a basement have different uses, including a luxurious apartment on the higher floors.

Completed in 1882 and renovated in recent years, it has a delightful profile. Ornate aspects are grand stone craft and double pinnacle spires.

When you are walking on 5th Avenue you can't miss this standout building. I haven't been inside but the outside is certainly striking.

After finishing up my workday, I left my hotel room and took my own personal walking tour of downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter & really enjoyed myself. This 1888 four-story building, with elements of Victorian baroque architecture, is definitely a standout memory of my walk. It originally housed the Louis Bank of Commerce at 835 Fifth Ave until 1893. Then, Isidor Louis opened Maison Doree, an oyster bar that became a favorite of Wyatt Earp, the legendary lawman of the American West & a participant of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The upper floors of this building later became the Golden Poppy Hotel, which was ran by a fortune teller named Madame Cora. it’s located on a charming, feel good street with several outdoor cafés.
