This was a languid lunchtime, 3-hours walking and eating tour through the Gaslamp quarter of San Diego, capably led by Aparna. As a combination of history, culture and cuisine, it was hard to beat. We ate at 5 places taking in some fusion-style Bagels as a starter, Greek meze items, Thai samplers, Mexican tacos and finishing off with an overabundance of locally made ice cream. I had wondered if the choices were reflective of the sprcial place of particular commnities in San Diego, but it turned out that they just highoighted the diversity that makes up San Diego. In between courses, we were brought around some of the most interesting streets and buildings of the Gaslamp Quarter. Aparna regaled us with stories from the past, laced with history and humour. Aparna was superb and kept us mentally and gastronomically fulfilled throughout the tour! I would recommend this tour very highly as a good introduction to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego and a teaser of the varied and excellent dining options to be had here. And because this tour limits the number of participants to 6, and there were just 4 of us besides Aparna, it was a very warm and personal experience with the ability to get to know fellow travellers.
