Not being a local, but having been to my fair share of street festivals, when our friends who live in Maui asked us to attend First Friday, we were game. I’m glad we took them up on the offer as we had a good time. I know where I’m from we tend to have bigger street fairs, but this is a small town on an island so expect a much smaller venue. There were plenty of food vendors to pick from and while we are both meat eaters, one of our friends is not and there were plenty of vegan options. My fiancé visited “The Corn Project” booth where there were dressing ears of corn in all sorts of “toppings,” he got the Mexican option and it was amazing. There are two sections here for bands to setup. One section I was told is geared towards more local music, when I say local I mean Hawaiian. This ended up being our favorite area as there were multiple hula groups who were performing around the stage. The stage towards the back of the festival had a more mainstream pop cover band, which was also very good. In the area of the second band one will find multiple food trucks, everything from Thai, Mexican to bbq, there were plenty of food options to pick from. There are also a lot of local artisans selling their items. I bought a pineapple lime hot sauce from Hana Farms. Since I’ve been home I’ve put this sauce on tons of stuff. It goes really well on a burger, with a pineapple on a sweet Hawaiian bun. Definitely can’t wait till we’re back on the island next year to visit this little street fair.
