Don’t stand around contemplating the price of the racing bob compared to the family raft one
If you are going to do a bobsleigh run, then do it properly and go for the full fat racing experience
57.5 seconds full of curiosity, smiles, terror and hanging on
The sound of the ice rushing past as you fly down is only bettered by the sense of accomplishment and relief when you get to the bottom in 1 piece.
We did it march 2023 and had so much fun we did it again this yearWritten 8 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. His English is very good and is a great communicator with a good sense of humour. Would highly recommend and will definitely have more lessons if I visit the area againWritten 18 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Pooja_12Surrey, UKWe took private afternoon lessons with Philip or phi phi as he is known . He was excellent to understand where you needed help and work with you to improve your technique and confidence. The lessons were fun and exciting as we explored different runs . The communication was clear. I definitely feel more confident now . Thank you ESF.Written 28 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - NickLondon, UKThe team at ESF La Plagne 1800 couldn’t have been better - the lessons for my son from Thomas, Antoine & Felix were amazing and he refound his confidence and joy on the slopes.
At the other end of the scale Thierry led some amazing offpiste trips for the teenagers.
And Nicolas in the office was super helpful allowing us to change the meeting points.Written 6 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was freezing and ended up ill the night after I’d been here. The showers are warm for about 5 seconds (not an exaggeration) and then go cold. It’s an expensive 10 minutes (if you can manage that long) and just not worth it! It could be lovely if they turned the heat up a bit!Written 14 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - valeriesT5108PCAmsterdam, The NetherlandsThe children and I had lessons.
Children are aged 11, 10 and 6. The six year old could not ski at the start of the week and was scared to go to ski school. Thanks to crevette and jay he was flying down the slopes at the end of the week.
The older two progressed very well under the careful instruction of max. Their technique improved dramatically and max also took them to the forest, over jumps and ensured they all had lots of fun too.
My own lessons with Marc and Yvon were brilliant. They had me doing half-pipes, skiing (safely) off piste and carving at the end of the week. Who says you can’t really learn to ski as an adult?
The front office staff were also very helpful at all times.
We all had an amazing time and our skiing has improved dramatically.
Merci beaucoup ESF Plagne Bellecôte!!!Written 23 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - This was our 6 year old and 8 years olds second ski holiday.
This ski school is amazing!
Stephan (BeBe) looked after the children all week . They had a fab time learning to ski and had great fun.
Christian gave myself a few afternoon lessons and one family lesson which we will never forget.
We felt very safe and looked after and all really enjoyed his company and top ski tips.
We can’t wait to return to La Plange and will absolutely use this ski school again.

I booked through the website, which was a bad idea, because the spa itself didn't seem to get the information, it would have been simpler to simply turn out and pay on the spot.
We booked two hours in the premium area which had a good and varied range of baths, saunas, pools, etc. There were three saunas for different temperature/humidity preferences, a hammam, salt room, different jacuzzis, nordic baths and showers and a pool. Crucially, children are not allowed in this section, so it was peaceful.
Access to the spa was easy enough from Plagne Centre with the bus and cable car.
I hope to return during the ski season.Written 3 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. La Mine bar is an English-style pub in the middle of Plagne 1800. Decorated in the style of an old mine you’ll find old mining carts for tables, pick axes on the walls and other decorations making the place feel super cool and underground. It is a bit of a shock to head out from the sunny outdoors into La Mine where there isn’t a huge amount of natural light. It does feel quite dark, but that just adds to the awesome atmosphere for après ski and evening gigs.
La Mine does have free Wi-Fi throughout the bar, just ask for the code from one of the bar staff. But the coverage is patchy and the phone signal can be a little bit spotty.
If you’re a keen sports fan, then you can expect to watch all of the Six Nations, football and other sports events in La Mine. And if they’re not showing something you want to watch, you can ask one of the bar staff and if they can put it on for you they will.
La Mine has always been a hub for English seasonnaires, as French visitors alike. But when it was refurbished and made much larger for 2019, then the bar really took off to another level. There’s a huge range of beers on draft and IPAs which change regularly. Plus, they’ve got lots of home spirits as well which you can buy with discounts and different drinks promotions on throughout the week.
If you’re looking for a good après then La Mine is 100% one of the places you want to head to. They have a great selection of live bands and duos playing that a lot of the other bars in La Plagne don’t have and then in the evenings they’ll have a great selection of bigger bands and also DJs playing sets up until one or two in the morning.
Drinks promos are things like Mojito Monday, Long Island Tuesdays, Jäger Bomb evenings or two for one Wednesdays; there’s different things happening every day. Check the La Mine Facebook to find out exactly what’s happening and which bands are playing
If you are travelling with kids then they are absolutely welcome. You’ll often see the owner Marie with her two young children in the bar. I would say, however, whilst kids are welcome and you can take them to watch the sport (which I have done to watch rugby or the football), it does get very lively of an evening and people are drinking and partying quite heavily. So it may not be so child friendly during the busier après ski evenings and nighttime events.
I should mention as well that during the refurb, the toilets got refurbished, and they are really nice in a ski resort where most of the toilets are absolutely terrible, and there’s no space to move around in them. It’s refreshing to go to La Mine, where the toilets are massive, and there’s plenty of space, and they’re cleaned regularly.
That’s La Plagne @ La Mine
La Mine is a firm favourite and definitely worth a visit whether you’re looking for an après party or an evening night out. The bus stop is right outside of La Mine. So if you are looking to get down to 1800 you can ski down during the day. Then if you look to take the bus home, the bus from outside leaves every 15 minutes and takes you to Bellecôte or to Plagne Centre. And you can quickly find your way to the further villages from those connecting points.
TOP TIPS
- Check the La Mine Instagram to see what bands are playing on which nights when you’re in La Plagne.
- If you’re heading for après ski, I’d recommend changing your ski or board boots before heading there. You can go in your ski gear and leave your skis and boards outside, but it’s much more comfortable without this gear with you.
- Try some of the local Savoyarde beers and IPAs there’s plenty to choose from. My favourite however is the prosecco which is really nice and they do a fantastic Espresso Martini.

My friends also rented good quality ski’s there! And we stored the ski’s there, that was very convenient.
