This is a beautiful area to get to and once you’re there. The drive down Botany Bay Road was the highlight. A canopy of trees so thick you can’t see the sky. It’s a must see when in the area

Very open beach with plenty of parking. Small convenience store and good beach access. All park employees were friendly and helpful. A good way to enjoy Edisto Beach,

Check the shows out! They have shows on feeding the alligators, lectures on the snakes and other topics. About five shows a day. We got there about 3 pm and the only show left was the alligator feeding show. We watched that and listened to the alligator lecture and it was fascinating to see the alligators eat up close and then growl at each other over territory. The poisonous snake display was a huge island with snakes all over it and then mice running round, hiding and climbing trees to hide. One snake was climbing a tree slowly to look for mice. It was hot outside at the outdoor displays, but you can go back inside to the inside displays and see the snakes they have on display or look around in the gift shop. You can buy cold bottled water and soft drinks in the gift shop. They have some cool t-shirts also. Parking is free. I recommend at least two to three hours and try to see 1-2 shows or lectures - we learned a lot about alligators!

Kings Farm Market is a must stop every trip to Edisto. Our family usually visits King’s minimum of 3 times during our week vacation. The key lime pie is awesome. Fresh vegetables and fruit. Great selection of Soda.

This is a very compact museum (converted house) filled to the brim with artifacts and information. It could be overwhelming but it was thoughtfully organized too be manageable. I thought that I already knew a lot but there were so many interesting tidbits that made me want to take another trip just to share it with others.
I think it there was enough to make you happy that you went and it was easy to navigate for my dad with mobility issues. He did sit at a bench after coming in to rest before he started exploring but he did explore and went to the bench again while I browsed the gift shop at the entrance. FYI. It felt crowded with just about 10 people inside.

About a third of the way around the driving tour of the Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area, is a walking trail to Driftwood Beach. This is a beautiful beach with lots of driftwood, seashells, etc. We saw lots of birds along the trail.
The trail also passes through a hammock island. Hammock islands are small islands (less than 1,000 acres), located landward of barrier islands. There are 3,500 of these islands in the vast salt marsh ecosystem on the South Carolina coast. Botanists have identified 580 plant species (including 164 rare ones), 21 mammals, 24 reptiles, 11 amphibians and 63 butterflies that rely on hammock islands.
Driftwood Beach is well-named! It is covered with driftwood - large pieces of it and lots of them. There are also quite a few seashells (people have even picked them up and put them on display). And there are lots of birds in the salt marsh.
This was definitely a great place to visit! We loved it. And all for free.

Very nice trail with interesting sites. Perhaps not as impressive as some would want. However, if you look at the erosion and realize just how big the mound really is, it is impressive.

This is one of my favorite courses. We usually go to Edisto in September and December and the course is always in good shape. Near our condo. Reasonable priced for a course at the beach. Roughly 35 for 9 holes with a cart.

Only negative is on busy mornings they will not let you tee off from 10 to start your round.

But other then that can’t complain.

Beautiful items. Amazing gift ideas that are unique and the lady who runs it is super friendly. We go visit the store every time we are in town.

Why is this listed as a "top" destination, when it is locked behind a fence and monitored by camera?

We used them to rent a 6 seater golf cart during our vacation. Our golf cart had some mechanical issues. Called Edisto Bike and Golf Cart, to my surprise they had a technician at the house within 20 minutes and since they didn’t have another 6 seater, they delivered 2 smaller golf carts to the house within 45 minutes for us to use. Also we when we arrived at the house, the golf cart was there and they picked up the golf carts on our last day. Best service and would highly recommend using them.
