- NeoWasHereFrederick, MD3 947 contributionsMy main reason for going to this area in the first place was to visit the Portland Japanese Garden. After waiting forever to find an available parking spot in Washington Park, I then had quite a hike ahead of me to get to the Japanese Garden. This International Rose Test Garden was in my walking route. I didn't know it was there beforehand. Since it was the middle of June, the roses were in full bloom so I stayed awhile here distracted by their beauty. As printed on the brochure, the roses are in bloom from late May through October. Also noted, a $500 fine can be imposed by Portland City Code if anyone tries to pick or remove roses or rose plants so don't even think about it.Written 16 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael B7 contributionsThis place is breathtaking, I was not too sure what to expect but my girlfriend made me come here when we visit Portland and my god it has to be the place that made my Portland experience. The paying extra few bucks to go on top is worth it. Get to see very beautiful statues and alters. The view is to Amazing in the meditation room. Please be quite when in there because when I was there there was people talking and someone chewing with their mouth open like common be quiet and close that damn mouth 10/10 place

What is supposed to be a 6 minute drive from where we started, it took about an hour to get to and find a place to park. Drivers grind to a halt on SW Kingston Avenue where you will eventually pass perfectly good parking lots that are all full, then more parking spots all full, pass public restrooms that you need to use but can't because there is nowhere to park, playgrounds for kids but you can't use since you can't park, and then right before a monstrosity of a construction site of some reservoir, you may be able to find a parking spot like we did. After contributing $4.60 to the City of Portland through something called Parking Kitty, the long hiking journey began uphill and eventually on a trail that led to an empty amphitheater. More restrooms were found, but those ones were closed for some reason. Lovely. You can just hold it and like it.
After all, there's beautiful roses in high bloom since it was June. Ooh, pretty! That'll keep your mind off of things. Then, if you can somehow manage to get through the wall of tennis courts, eventually one may finally find the Portland Japanese Garden. I don't know who designed this park, but those tennis courts are just in the way. Maybe, move them further away and provide more parking next to the attractions people come here to see would be a good idea. Is there any common sense left in the world?!
Anyways, the roses were beautiful and the garden peaceful. I love the sound of nature and waterfalls. Nature's beauty far surpass any of these other nuisances.Written 17 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We stopped at one simple winery for a good tasting and noted that there were several guest houses nearby. Close to the city.Written 29 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- margaretcovPortland, OR268 contributionsA charming village with unique shops and restaurants. A few empty spots but new ones coming soon. It is a delightful place to stroll with friendly people and lots of dogs (some of the stores actually invite in well-behaved ones). And, don't forget the side streets such as the food carts in the French Quarter with two more delicious places across the street - Marcos and Grand Central Bakery. And for those who like the chains, to the east on Capitol Highway you will find a Starbucks, Blue Donuts and Little Big Burger. The locals love the place, especially on first Friday when the stores are open later, serving treats and beverages plus 10% off purchases.Written 31 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rick COverland Park, KS13 contributionsDavid was an awesome guide. Very knowledgeable about the coast and the Portland area. He made sure we had a great trip. It rained during our trip but that did not stop us from seeing the coast.Written 2 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Robin F1 contributionWe rented e-bikes from Cycle Portland today and the experience was first class. James at front of desk ensured we were well prepared and fully informed before we set off. He went out of his way to assist us knowing we were tourists from Australia wishing to cycle the environs of Portland.
The bikes were excellent; the map and James’ knowledge of the pathways and circuits ensured we had an adventure to remember.
We strongly recommend Cycle Portland if you want a safe, supportive and knowledgeable place to rent a bike. James , and his co-worker Taylor (?) were outstanding. We had arrived before the opening time but as it was very cold , Taylor let us in and made us feel welcome and warm!Written 6 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RandySaint Louis, MO1 contributionOur tour into the Oregon Willamette Valley was exactly what we were looking for as this was our first visit to this wine region. Dasha was a wonderful host. She was very friendly and very knowledgable about the region and history. The ride was relatively short, but she provided enough detail of how and why the Pinot grapes do so well here. We were a small group, so she was able to listen and answer all of our questions. It was a great ride.
The lunch was awesome and the selection of wineries was perfect. We were picked up and dropped off at the hotel door in Tigard, so we had no worries about the road. I’d recommend this tour to anyone looking for a very comfortable and educational day!Written 30 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Wineries (Granville,Bacus, and Patricia Green) were intimate, educational, and had delicious wine. My only suggestion is to consider offering tours that go to just 2 wineries since everyone starts to burn out upon reaching the third and that seems unfair to them.

The guides were great and entertaining. Be prepared to get really wet though as they love doing 360s to entertain and soak the guests.Written 10 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - timjstarkShorewood, WI692 contributionsWe booked a last minute “7 Wonders of the Gorge” trip on what turned out to be a gorgeous day on the water.
On a filled to capacity boat (25 or so people?), we had an exemplary experience with the top notch narration (I believe he was the owner of the company), the provided noise canceling headphones, and the amazing views; especially when we departed the city itself and headed into the Gorge. My friend, a long time Portland resident, even told me that it was his best river experience in all his years in Oregon!
The ride back (due to the up & back route) was not as exciting as we had seen everything already, but the owner kept things lively with a discussion of Bigfoot along with plaster casts of said creature!
All in all, a great day on the water!Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Walking tours of the towns and cities that we visited. Visits to local agriculture, including a pistachio farm, olive oil producer, and salt flats; to name a few. Tour of the Valley of the Temples, well preserved ruins of Greek and Roman temples. All with knowledgeable local guides. Visits, of course, to local wineries and restaurants. The small size of our tour group allowed us to go off the beaten path to places you would never find on your own. Add to that the top notch hotel accommodations made for an unforgettable trip. This is our third trip to Italy with Forktown Tours and we have never been disappointed. If Sicily is on your bucket list this is the tour to sign up for!Written 30 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jill W1 contributionTour was so much fun and delicious - informative too. Our guide Jonathan set a great vibe for our group and was very knowledgeable and engaging. I really liked that we tasted different types of coffee preparation as well as different coffees and the little snacks kept the caffeine level ok. Great intro to the Portland coffee scene!Written 20 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Brittisaurusrex2 contributionsWe had a blast! Daniel, our guide, was super helpful and really helped us get to know the area and making sure we were comfortable. I feel like we were really able to see the beauty Oregon has to offer during this bike ride.Written 12 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
