- tmazionsmithSaint Paul, MN446 contributionsNice fountain area in the midst of the city. It was a nice spot to rest for a bit on a warm day. There are several different levels to explore and that provide different viewing points.Written 25 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SMF-CollegevilleBatesville, IN205 contributionsNice park focused on an impressive, waterfall-like fountain in the city, providing a bit of an oasis to the big city.Written 21 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - iamhere555united states125 contributionsVisited on a Friday afternoon after going to Powell's City of Books. The walk over was along a bit of sketchy areas (walked along Burnside) and the fountain area itself was a little sketchy. Litter, dirty, homeless, abandoned buildings. It was ok in the day but I wouldn't recommend going at night. The fountain itself is ok--not a major destination in itself. There was a fire station just to the south that appeared to have historical fire fighting equipment inside which was interesting.
We continued on to the waterfront and walked along the path--the area seemed to get nicer the further south we went. We walked back to our car along Morrison -- much nicer street, felt much safer.
Not sure where to park specifically for this fountain. Parking in downtown Portland seems to be a nightmare. Street parking and lots are all pay 7 days a week. The cheapest lot we saw was $4/hour with most of them being $5/ hour and $14 for the day. Some stores may have lots (Powell's books has a lot, not sure if it was paid or not, it was full when we arrived).Written 7 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The fountain and sculpture date back to the late 1920’s. It was gifted to the city by Joseph Shemanski, a Polish Jewish immigrant who wanted to thank the city for all it had offered him. Unfortunately, over the years it fell into disrepair, but in the late 1980’s (and again in the mid-2000’s) repair and restoration of the statue and fountain took place. Today, it is included in guidebooks of Portland as well as part of walking tours. It is located just steps from the Portland Art Museum as well as the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. The park itself also hosts a farmer’s market.Written 26 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Peter OMilwaukee, WI169 contributionsNice little area to enjoy our lunch from the dozens of food trucks across the street. Musicians add a fun atmosphere and detract from the hungry pigeons and crazy people wandering around! It was a perfect place to relax and eat before we continued exploring the city.Written 18 August 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carl RPortland, OR631 contributionsIt is a 4 foot high brick structure made out of bricks. But keep walking down the path for a real surprise of sculptures and huge fountains...note: there is a parallel walkway one stree over to the left (west)Written 13 February 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
