I have a Mcmenamins passport and I needed just one more activity stamp to get a $20 gift card. There was a listing for a free lecture At the Mission Theater that sounded very interesting that just happened to qualify for an activity passport stamp. It was a Sunday and they also had an afternoon matinee of the Sci-Fi film “Flash Gordon”. Yeah, the one that Queen provided the soundtrack for. And they It screened that at 3 PM and for only $2 for Adults and kids.
So I went to the Mission Theater that day. What a deal!
The Mission Theater is an old looking brick building. It has a balcony in a semicircle shape that looks down on the stage that has a screen behind it. The seats in the balcony are comfortable and there are places you can place your food and drink.
The bar is below the balcony at the bar where you can buy a wide range of McMenamins drinks. Beer, cider, and cocktails. I was drinking the seasonal cider Blackberry cider. It is very tasty and makes for a nice change from beer. You can also buy food and snacks, but it is rather limited. Typical movie snack type items. Popcorn of course being one of them. And for me the always tempting comfort food– PIZZA.
A representative from Oregon MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) introduced the Paranormal Pub lecture mentioning that they are sponsored by MUFON and McMenamins. And that they cover a wide range of topics. Like UFOs, Extraterrestrials, Ghosts, ESP, Bigfoot and various other unexplained phenomenon. The Paranormal Pub is help once a month at the Mission Theater.
The lecture for tonight was Women & Spirituality: Paganism. The speaker was Montana Jordan, a freelance writer, occult specialist, parapsychological researcher, and independent consultant. She covered the basic branches of paganism. And the difference between them. Fascinating and enlightening. I saw several people sitting down at the front of the audience taking notes. And the question and answer discussion at the very end was even more interesting to listen to as it was much more in depth.
I quite enjoyed this paranormal pub activity they have at the Mission Theater. And even more so the excellent McMenamins drinks. Well, any excuse for a couple pints is a good excuse as far as I’m concerned. And it’s always so much more interesting when you have stimulating conversation to go with your drinks
