We rented a boat to visit Foz São Francisco. We departed from a great restaurant just on the AL101, Canto do Boca, where they rent the boat. Got small snacks and drinks for the tour which was great. The tour takes you to the end of the São Francisco river which is definitely worthwhile. We jumped from the roof of the boot into the cool river water and rolled from the sand dunes. Great experience!

We did trail to through the first nieuw Caatinga vegetation landscape to get to the cave where the legendary Lampiāo and Maria Bonita and 8 other cangaceiros were ambushed and murdered. A must see if you are interested in the local history and culture.

the historic center of Piranhas is a nice place as well in the fall, when de temperatures are not so high. But I think that turism can be improved by feeding better the museum of "cangaço" and also with the history os old constructions. The tours to some beautiful places like the "canions dourados" to enjoy the sun going down and also tours by the river São Francisco with many places to have lunch and swimming.

Place looks nice and is located on one of the best spots in the city. They where rebuilding the place in partly pousada.
There was a very friendly sir that showed us around. Beautiful lookout of one of the windows with fresh briese of wind on the river and garden.
Don't forget to ask to see the graves of the priests in the wall

This trip starts at the Xingó Info Center and takes you to and inside the hydroelectric powerplant. You need a car and pay a single (cheap) fare per car to enter the complex. A guide shows you the damm area with some nice views on Xingó reservoir and the overflow area. After you enter inside the power generation area with some more explanations. It's a good way to know more about the actual water/energy problems of Brazil's Northeast and don't forget to ask about Delmiro Gouveia. That's a hell of a story.

Compared to other beaches along the Alagoas State coastline, Pontal do Peba may not seem that attractive, but it makes a good base if you´re visiting southern Alagoas. This is a quiet fisherman's village and one can take long nice strolls along the beach here as the sand is hard and good for walking. There are not too many houses along the beach and if you´re fit you can walk from one beach to the other (most of them unspoilt) and isolated). There's also a buggy tour that crosses the southern part of Peba beach 20 miles down to the mouth of the mighty São Francisco river. This is a protected area and only authorized cars are allowed. On top of that you can take a motor boat tour of the river, go parasailing, fishing or simply take a long retreat at one of the local pousadas. Also don´t miss the VIP Restaurant by the beach that serves good inexpensive food.

From a museological point of view, the collection is not so important. But what matters is the honesty and the simplicity of the location. Have a rest on one of the benches along the courtyard. 2Rs and all texts in Portuguese and English.

Only 2 museums in Penedo (Alagoas) of which this one is temporarely closed for renovation. So you will have to satisfy your museological needs with the Convento Franciscano, next to the Igreja Santa Maria dos Anjos. But apart from that, there's more than enough 'colonial' and post-colonial beauty in Penedo.

Splendid initiative by Dr. Francisco Alberto Salves. A charming host led us through the different rooms, giving short introductions in Portuguese of high quality. The 20 years old Casa do Penedo tells the history of the city in a didactic way, starting with the entrance of the Dutch and the Portuguese in this area. In the 19th century, economic prosperity encouraged culture with newspapers and literature. Later cinema did its entry in the city.
But this museum is only an appetizer for what's coming up! In a few years, a brand new museum will open in the Chalé dos Loureiros along the Avenida Getúlio Vargas under the name: Museum do São Francisco.
However, I don't think you should wait until then before checking the 'colonial' charm of the Alagoas Ouro Preto.
    Entrance: 3Rs.
