What travellers are saying
- Dori K2 contributionsA magnificent waterfall that is super accessible to everyone. It can be viewed from the platform overhead or a quick walk down the stairs to experience the misting from the falls or taking a dip in the Basin on a hot day!Written 12 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- 016200Atlanta, GA61 contributionsSpectacular waterfalls. Also visit the Cradle of Forestry. Walk the Cradles paths. Watch the sliders at Sliding rock falls.Written 15 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MissBehavior81Knoxville, TN436 contributionsA fun and unique experience. We arrived not long after opening and were able to get a parking space. Water was chilly, which is to be expected. We only went down once, but the line moved quickly, and it was fun to watch others slide down.Written 2 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Anita S24 contributionsWhat an AMAZING find!! So much to do and what a great look back into history! Love the video which gives an awesome overview of how the first Forestry school in America started! The paved trails with historic buildings, a sawmill and a locomotive are fun for all ages! Cafe open on the weekends! Chicken salad is delish!!
Go and take your family! There is a small parking lot with additional parking off the sides of the road. It wasn’t too busy when we started but more people were starting out the hike on our way back down. It took us around 4 hours total but we spent a good bit of time just enjoying the view from the top of Looking Glass Rock. There are lots of switchbacks along the path so it wasn’t as steep of a hike as we expected. We did take a break on the helipad/Max Wilson rock on the way up. It is a good stopping point because it gets to be a little more of an incline after that point. The views from the top are definitely worth the trek!Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- wohdonkeyNewark, OH1 947 contributionsWe were able to park in an area alongside the road to visit this waterfall. The hike was an easy .7 miles. There is a lookout area once you get to the falls. It’s worth checking out but it wasn’t one of my favorites in the area.Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- AnthonyLeicester, NC391 contributionsMade this stop on the Parkway today, absolute perfect day,a short moderate climb to the summit at 5720 ft affords an awesome view of the valley below.just take time to chill on the top and chatting with flow hikers or when it quiets down just enjoy the lack of man made noise.Written 27 October 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Bowmanator22Charlotte, NC4Â 944 contributionsGravel road to trailhead. Nobody there on a Saturday at 8:45 am. We had the whole place to ourselves. Relatively easy hike, but incredible falls!Written 8 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- wohdonkeyNewark, OH1Â 947 contributionsWe stopped here for the restrooms, information, and the gift shop. Rangers at the desk were helpful in giving advice on where to hike and waterfalls to see. Some waterfalls were closed while we were there. They also have a brochure that lists the waterfalls to visit as well as some additional paperwork on the desk about the falls and the area. Service is spotty in the Pisgah National Forest so it helps to download a map ahead of time. The gift shop was also nice.Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- wohdonkeyNewark, OH1Â 947 contributionsWe stopped here to try the beer and the food truck. Inside area was nice, the outside area was ok. They have picnic tables out back and live music. We liked the atmosphere at the other tavern in the area much better.Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- F9612TXmichaelwSt. Augustine, FL19 contributionsThis is probably as you would expect for a state or federal run place. It’s clean and well organized. It has information about the local wildlife and wilderness. It can help fill in the blanks that google just can’t. They have maps and current regulations that can save you time and headaches. The people are friendly and know their stuff. They can help you turn a good experience into a great one.Written 7 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- wohdonkeyNewark, OH1Â 947 contributionsWe parked at the of the road near a gated entrance in a small parking area. We had about a 1 mile round trip hike to the falls. It was a pretty easy hike and we really enjoyed the falls since it was only my husband and I there at the time. It was a nice peaceful spot to hang out after a short hike.Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Tony NSupply, NC21 contributionsThe view from the 6,030 ft. summit of Cold Mountain is worth the 5.3 mi. one-way hike. The summit is not too easy to find. I almost missed the survey marker at the peak. Once you arrive, step out onto the ledge from between the brush and bushes, and you will see layer upon layer of mountain ridges stretching out before you. During my August visit, there were wildflowers near the summit which had attracted many butterflies and bees. At one point, I had butterflies and bees swarming above my head, and to top it all off, a hummingbird flew overhead. The trail is not an easy one. It is "paved" almost entirely with rock which can, of course, be slippery when wet. Also, I actually stepped off the trail twice on my descent and had to backtrack to a point find the actual trail. There are no signs to point you in the right direction. Be mindful of where you make turns on the ascent. The difficulty level for me would be about 5/5, but I am sure a much fitter hiker would not find this trail much more than a 3/5. Just allow for about 6 hours round trip. Happy hiking!Written 19 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Jane HHighlands, NC20 contributionsIf you want to hike, bird or do a beautiful, leisurely walk - this is a perfect trail for you. Pets on leashes are welcome.
My experience included wonderful streams, trees and vegetation. For birders there were warblers, hawks and a variety of other birds.
While Pink Beds was once pink, for some reason, I didn't see anything pink except for some wildflowers. If you're in the area and have at least an hour, it's worth the stop. Also a nice picnic spot.Written 29 April 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Cynthia NDaphne, AL56 contributionsBeautiful large waterfall in secluded location, definitely off the beaten path. The trail is not marked very well but there is a narrow path up to the fall. May be a difficult walk for the elderly and certain disabilities as it is steep and slippery in places. Highly recommend for anyone wanting to check off another waterfall on their bucket list. This one's a beauty!Written 7 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
