This (pedestrian) ferry connects Maxixe on the Mozambican mainland with Inhambane peninsula. It sails on a regular basis (approximately every 20 to 30 minutes, as long as there are passengers). It costs 15 Meticais (one way). Tickets you can get inside an office (no cheating).

There are two types of boats: one is a ship, pretty large in size dating from Portuguese times, the others are smaller flat bottoms. The latter are not very comfortable, as you sit on wooden planks. When it rains the boat is fully covered. The trip takes about 20 minutes.

Mercado central in Inhambane is a hectic place, as many chapas to other parts of the peninsula depart and arrive here. It is also good for stocking up on local produce such as vegetables and fruit (significantly lower in price than at tourist places like Tofo and Barra). There is also a section where you can eat. Hygiene is a concern.

The market is within walking distance of the ferry dock 1 km away. Ask locals about directions.

Good to get an impression of local life.

A highly professional, organised, on time, friendly and helpful transfer company.
A group of us travelled by road from Maputo to Vilanculos and back with Lagoon Sunset Tour & Travel and we couldn't have been more satisfied. The driver Alfredo was also great, a very safe driver, skilled and experienced, knowledgeable about the area, bathroom stops, local food/fruit shopping and has a good knowledge of English. If you're looking for a transfer company in Mozambique, this is surely the one!

I could not ask for more! The trip itself was amazing, being in such beautiful remote and off the beaten track places was great but you know what really make an experience different and special? People, pleople makes something good, great! Both Steve and Dave were amazing from day one, they had everything planned and navigated the eventual challenges that well, that we did not even notice! They were so fun while being the most professional and serious when needed. I was the most “junior diver” in the group and they gave me all the trust and confidence needed for me to feel safe and confident in every dive making me a way better diver after this trip.
I would definitely repeat anytime, actually, might do 🐋

What an awesome dive center!! They look after you and the food at Safety Stop is divine. We were diving there and you also do the ocean safari where you can snorkel.

Beny is an excellent guide who knows his country very well. He knew exactly what we were looking for and managed to tailor a perfect vacation for us. Cultural experiences, local food, animals and the most unthinkable, beautiful places. Most memorable and valuable is his fantastic presence. 12/10, highly recommendable ! Thanks again Beny😊

We were recommended to Barra Dive resort by my friend Mark.
The staff were very nice and very helpful especially Jackie ( who is calm and super competent ) and Riaan ( who is super helpful ) Nothing was to much trouble for them but if you expect to leave on time or at a set time then rather go and dive at a first world resort.
The resort moves at Mozambican time .... Slowly and very chilled.
Unfortunately the Vis was super poor so we only got three dives in so we are going back in April / May when it's at its best.
The sea safari was awesome saw Dolphins, Whales and calves breaching.
No whale sharks but hey it is the wild ocean !!! Not a zoo !!!
