After our time through Canada, this was a hard a fast return to traffic, crowds, and souvenir stores as we reentered the States. However, we really wanted to see the Locks since we were there. Parking is on-street and can be hard to come by on busy days. Expect to have bags searched upon entry. There is an interesting interpretive center available to wander through before heading out to see the Locks. While we just missed a large freighter coming through, we were able to climb the steps of the observation deck to see two tourist boats go through, so it was fun to see them in operation when we were there. Good activity for families and nice grounds to wander between the building and the canal.

This is a steam freighter and makes for a very interesting museum. You could easily spend 4 hours there. The office to buy tickets for the cruise through the locks is in the same parking lot. Be sure to take the cruise.

Splendid Gothic church built in 1881, including lovely stained glass of that era. Displays memorabilia of Venerable Frederic Baraga, the first bishop of the Lake Superior basin, originally seated on this church site. At one point this church was set to be torn down and replaced with a “brutalist” concrete one. Only its bell tower got built, today rebranded as the “Tower of History” next door to the Gothic church, which was left standing.

This bridge takes you to and from Canada in Sault Ste Marie Michigan and Ontario. Our crossing went without a hitch. There is a charge but it was low. You do need a passport to cross the bridge. There is a duty free store as well. The border crossing agents were very nice and helpful.

To me, this object looks more like “after military” one with its very rough elevation.
When you rich the top, you will be amazed by beautiful view of the city, the canal, Soo Locks, St. Marys River and Canadian shore.
I was there in October, during changing the colors, so the view was even more amazing.
Before we get to the top, we saw 15 minute movie about the history of region.
Even on the top you can learn a lot about the city, how it was growing because of the Locks.
There are two levels on the top of tower. You can stay inside or go out having view almost in all directions.
If you are in the city, don’t miss the Tower.
It’s not free, but it’s worth to pay and visit.

We stopped here for lunch ahead of our boat tour, and service was quick. Food was very good, and a nice selection. There was also a nice selection of beers. We couldn't take advantage of the rooftop area because it was drizzling out, but it took us a while to figure out the TV in the bar area was actually showing the rooftop view. I think had we known that, we would have sit closer because a lock view is great.

I'm an alum, so I always enjoy visiting the campus. In addition to all of the campus area things to see, there's also a very long and interesting history of the site as the former Fort Brady and all the history that goes with that.

Very neat historical homes! Three of the houses were staffed by members of the Historical Society. They were a wealth of knowledge and very much enjoyed sharing all they knew. Lots of neat artifacts to look at and some to touch. Overall, the experience truly brought history to life!

We got to see this from the water as we took the ferry cruise through the locks. They talked about when it was built and the engineering, and how many watts of power it puts out. Its amazing how many people and the area that this plant actually powers.

Lots of artifacts from the area, and some interesting scenes. Lovely murals/paintings. A couple fun hands on activities, such as maneuvering canoes up an accurate plaque that's a map of the river. Museum is on the smaller side.

This is a great new and used book store, with lots of local art and crafts . It’s fun to browse and see what they have new, and they even host authors from time to time. They can also get you any book you want if they don’t have it. If you bring in used books, they will give you 10% off a new book. The owners are very friendly and are a wealth of knowledge about the area too.

If you like to tour the Great Lakes you'll like taking a tour of the Valley Camp. It's an authentic iron ore boat you can visit from stem to stern. It's very easy to locate and it's right on the Soo Locks and the Soo Locks tour is right down the road. They have a nice gift shop that is located right next to the waterway. You can spend all day here, and have a picnic too.

went there last berry season, I had back surgery so I can't pick my own, but for a modest fee you can buy (I think by the pound) they were wonderful! Easy to get to, right off of 3 Mile.

For me visiting this shop could be addictive. A happy collection of jewelry, art work and photos featuring local artists, digital restoration, custom framing etc. I got a 19th Century port side ship's lantern. I suppose I should go back for the starboard side one. The sort of place I would visit a few times a week just to see what has come in.
