If you're tired of witch museums and the like this is a Salem classic that tells about Hawthorne's life, his family and his writings including "The Scarlet Letter" among others.
Forget all the pseudo-occult witch wax museums, dungeons, etc.

Amazing collection of Salem's maritime history (it was a busier port than Boston in the 17th/early 18th centuries), and great array of historical facets from its merger with the Essex & Chine Trade museums.
The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, is among the 20 leading art museums in the United States, but what makes it especially fascinating is the Yin Yu Tang House.

Great history of the family who owned the home and who actually set it up to be a museum for the public many years ago.
We're big museum buffs and own an old house ourselves and presented things on just the right level for us.

Salem abounds in museums and tours.
Both were entertaining and fun but totally different from each other. The main show was a well done stage show, while the museum is a kinda cheesy(in the best possible way) run through haunted house.

We did plenty of history and museums so it was a nice break and we indulged in the "historical" old films.
Wanted to walk through a museum but found the witch museums a bit pricey.

The museum is more a vehicle for a relatively short tour than it is a museum in the traditional way we think of museums.
Definitely one of the more informative as well as interesting museums in Salem.

Like a lot of the museums in Salem, it is a guided tour through life-sized vignettes with mannequins, so it’s a little kitschy and, for my tastes, absolutely delightful.
Great tour and great informative experience from our guide loved the informative and exhibits that's the museum had.
