About a year ago, I booked with them when I had family down from Durban. I had already purchased our picnic fare when, about 2 hours prior to our booking, Dave phoned to say that his guide was ill, so we would have to reschedule. We were disappointed, but accepted this as truth.
In February this year, I made a booking for my son's birthday party. I booked and paid over a week in advance. On the Friday afternoon before the Saturday morning of our booking, again after I had already purchased all the party fare, Dave phoned to tell me that his guide was sick. With 12 teenage boys expecting a sandboarding expedition, I begged and pleaded for Dave to find a way, but he said that he had tried all his guides in this area and none was available. I eventually suggested that I could collect the boards, so that I didn't have to cancel the party. I collected the boards from the guide, who it turns out wasn't sick at all, but having a birthday party for his daughter - turns out he was only notified of our party on that day (Friday) and couldn't cancel his own daughter's party. It also came to light that there are only 2 guides working for Sidewinder - one for the Betty's Bay dunes and one for the Atlantis dunes. I don't appreciate being lied to!
The advert promises:
* Boards (we had to collect and return these ourselves)
* A professional guide (we had none)
* The fee includes the permit to the dunes (what permit? there was no-one around)
I requested a 50% refund (which I thought was more than fair under the circumstances), which I have been chasing-up until today, when I actually only received 40% back.
I will NEVER book with Sidewinder Adventures again.
