- Kristy MAtlanta, GA162 contributionsWe just got back from our trip to St. Andrew's State Park in Panama City Beach!. We LOVED our site.
We did not have any shade, but we were prepared. We put insulated covers in our skylights in the camper, kept all the window's closed. On the camper door we took a folding windshield sunshade, cut it down and used velcro to secure to the door.
We let the awning out, and popped up one of our canopies (of 2) with a shade panel and we were good to go. The camper stayed cool.
If you are wondering about site 18, it is not shaded, but you face the lagoon. The sun rises from front to back in a / style over your site. The sunrises and sunsets are beautiful. Bathhouse number 2 is just a few steps down from the site. Literally two campsites down.
You will see visitors that come through your campsite. There are two doe and one buck. If you don't move or startle them, they will walk to the edging of the gravel for your site.
The site with gravel is pretty much level. We did not have to adjust left to right or front to back. The rangers have a system in place to spread the gravel back out to make smooth and level in between campers.
Speaking of which, if you have littles be sure to do the Junior Ranger Program. It's FREE!!!
We rode our bikes/ebikes around the campground. Everyone was wonderful.
Another benefit is the playground is directly to the right of your campsite. It's shaded and there is a giant checker board and even a "porch" swing for adults to sit on.
The campground is gated and very clean. The bathhouses are also very clean. Here is a tip though: When you use the potties in the bathroom, make sure you hold the handle down for all your "business" to go down the drain. If not, it doesn't go down and just sits.
The showers were extremely clean and they are handicapped friendly. They have shower chairs for the elderly (which we had my 77 year old uncle with us).
The grills for the campsites were spotless clean. The rangers do a good job cleaning the campsites.
The road into the state park are rather rough, but we were told they are working to repave the whole areas that need repaving.

- jcoleman2016Clermont, FL14 contributionsCruising to Shell Island is a family tradition of many years. Be sure and take the eco-cruise out of Captain Anderson's Marina. You won't regret it. You see a lot and learn a lot, plus having fun. The captain and crew are amazing. This provides the shortest walk to the Gulf, and when you are walking back to the boat after being on the beach, you will be glad you took this cruise. Employees are really good and enforce the rules and keep our kids safe, soemthing I really appreciate as a mother. We already renewed for next season, can't wait to see what they add. My Dolphin was Gus along with his trainer, Nicole. The two of them worked so well together. They made this experience so much fun! If you get a chance to do this,do it. The price was most affordable. Also, all of the pictures the photographer took were downloaded to your phone at no extra cost. Clean very friendly and although small everyone had fun …. Age 2 to 11. The staff was most helpful and friendly including Aiden on our last ride …. - Robert HMcMinnville, TN65 contributionsIt’s an enjoyable little zoo. If you take your time and are at the Animal Experience locations at the right then you get to pet some of the animals. The staff is friendly but seemed very busy. Reading the animal description signs was informative but would have been nicer if the staff was a bit more interactive with guests and willing to take the time and talk about the animals. The petting area of the zoo with farm animals was fun and the bird aviary was a blast. If you stand still next to the cage holding your feed sticks out they will come to you and at one time we were covered almost head to toe with birds licking the sweat off us as well as eating the seed. The park is very dog friendly with dog water fountains and clean up stations provided. There are a wide variety of trail lengths. I hiked about 1.8 miles using AllTrails as a guide. The trail wound through forests and over swamps on boardwalks. It’s a beautiful area! Due to recent rains, there was some shallow water on the trail but nothing major.
