Cool, clear water to see fish and you can easily reach the bottom of spring with snorkel gear. It is a small spring, so if there are too many people, they may stir up the bottom and it will be cloudy. It's a popular location, try to go on a less busy day. Some tours stop by here. It's worth checking out if you have time.

Beautiful place for a walk and very pretty. Boardwalks were well maintained. I know it is important, but there were just way too many signs on staying out of the water, it became very distracting. The asphalt paths needed some maintenance, but not a big deal for anyone who isn't disabled. Not enough areas to rest away from the sun, and I ended up a little overheated.

After visiting Three Sisters Springs, we had a few hours before heading back to our cottage. The Fort Island Gulf Beach was a convenient place to stop. On a Tuesday afternoon, it was surprising to note that most of the parking spots were taken. We took one of the last ones.

The beach was clean. The water was clean and calm. There was no life guard (I am not sure if that is standard or not). The restroom facilities were okay. People were respectful (in that they were not too loud). There we beautiful birds and it was a lovely visit, all around.

Nice park. We'll kept. Good spot to put kayaks in. $5 parking all day plus $5 each vessel. Parking lot is small, so it fills up quickly. Swimming beach with pavilion and bathrooms. Great spot for families to enjoy water and beach.

Our family enjoyed taking an afternoon hike on these salt marsh trails and looking for wildlife. Very picturesque.

I hiked a portion of the 7-mile trail at Crystal River Preserve SP. A cold front had just come through making it cold and the trails really wet. I didn’t have much trouble hiking around the wet spots on the portion of trail I did. I did get to see baby alligators! They would hop into the water as I walked by. There was also ample evidence of bobcats and other animals. This park is only a short distance off US 19 and a great place to visit!

The site is very pleasant and worth the $3 per vehicle entry fee. The museum (closed 2 days/week) had a lot of displays but was missing several including a prehistoric canoe. A rude/arrogant volunteer at the visitor center was very condescending. The walkways are extremely uneven and they sprayed all the chipped and broken sidewalk with orange spray paint perhaps 20 years ago. Don't bring anyone with balance issues or a walker. However, the grounds themselves are quite nice if you don't trip on the sidewalk. The magnificent main mound has a set of stairs you can climb to see the commanding view. The waterfront area is peaceful. There is a short narration video inside the museum. Learned a lot about the area's history and would take others here. No see um insects were aggressive and numerous. bring bug spray. Very uncrowded.

We visited this area twice. Once at sunset which was very pleasant and the other during the afternoon.
We were able to enjoy the dock, the boardwalk area between the dock and the beach, and the beach itself. It’s just a short little walk for a beach with soft sand. Lots of families enjoying themselves. This is not a place to be seen or socialize. This is a place for families to enjoy themselves safely at the beach. There is an area in the water that would help to prevent sharks from coming to close to the land.

This park was right next door to where we were staying so we went daily. We saw a manatee, fish, and a small alligator. Many people launched their kayaks from here. It was a small and quiet park.

Very enjoyable morning out with some friends riding bikes on the paved path. Parked at the park/trail head but we noticed that there were several other parking places along the way.
Not much else in the area. If you want to stop to eat there are more choice in Crystal River or Dunnellon.

Full disclosure , we didn't go there but did take a river cruise past it . It appears to be in a good location and seems like a lot of people go there. I did however take a selfie of Pete's Pier from across the bay because my name is Pete

I have to say...this was underwhelming. The whole state park in about the size of one city block and the ruins are interesting...but nothing that you need to see in person. I'm a history buff and I was left as "eh" with my visit,

We stopped here on a whim, just saw it and stopped by. Glad we did. The lady there was very helpful and friendly. She told us all about the local history, the people and the building itself. The building served as town hall, the fire department and the police. Check it out. It's small and wouldn't take long.
