#1 of 18 Nature & Parks in Pagosa Springs
The primitive hike is definitely more strenuous, but shorter than than the nature hike to the falls.
This hike is only a mile or so from a beautiful overlook further up going toward Wolf Creek Pass where you can park and take great photos.

I was pretty sure from Trip Advisor reviews that we wanted to take this hike, but when your good friend/guide is a tracker and nature instructor and has lived here 24 years, he should decide.
The trail follows the Piedra River, and it's not the walk in the park some people have made it out to be here.

Loved that you can ski off the groomed trails through the trees and across the park like settings.
Friendly helpful service from the moment you park to the moment you hit the slopes.

We scampered around the rocks, waded, climbed up to get misted on and enjoyed the beauty of nature.
At the end of this long drive it dead ends at the river, where you park and make a short hike to the falls.

It was busy even in the morning when we went, but keep in mind that you can also park across the street.
Located in a corner of the park that only 18+ can go, which is great if you don't have kids or want the noise.

Follow the bumpy dirt road for around 8 miles (you may go through some shallow water) looking for the historic guard station (on your left), and park beyond it on the left.
