- Veronica P11 contributionsMack Air recently flew our Safari group directly into the Moremi game reserve. The staff were friendly and helpful and our awesome pilot even posed for a few photos! I was so excited to be in Botswana that I got distracted and left my purse (with passport) on the plane. Right away the staff at Mack Air arranged to return my purse to me with the help of the Letaka safari team. They saved this Canadian gal from a huge fiasco and I can’t express how truly grateful I am to have flown with a company so committed to going above & beyond for their clients. I highly recommend this airline and only wish I could thank them in person.Written 14 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Vanessa StanleyCape Town, South Africa25 contributionsThe perfect Meet & Greet in Maun, assistance all the way to the bush flight. Amazing seeing so many young pilots.
Botswana so green from my aerial views.Written 25 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. She warned me I was making a mistake by going during the rainy season and said I wouldn’t see any wildlife. Her advice couldn’t have been more wrong!
Visiting Botswana Central Kalahari Reserve and the Magkadigkadi Salt Flats with David Shaw (Lead Photographer) and Sam Mopalo (Owner of Early Kingfisher Safari) was filled with incredible wildlife experiences! Sam, an accomplished naturalist who grew up and lives in Botswana, knows the wildlife in this area like the back of his hand. He can spot a lion, leopard, or any African beast from afar with his naked eye. It took the rest of us binoculars and the directions given by Sam and David to find it. The magic was getting close to this wildlife, close enough to photograph it. Sam’s tracking skills are beyond comparable. We were almost the only vehicle following the wildlife for days and never shared a viewing opportunity with anyone else.
David and Sam made a great “tag team.” What one missed or didn’t know, the other did. David, the avid and excellent photographer, ensured we had the best angle for the best shot, although Sam often nailed it before he said a word. And I came away with some remarkable photos, my favorites being those of the lions interacting with one another. I never guessed they could be as affectionate as a house cat!
Sleeping in tents, with Sam’s crew taking care of our every whim, kept us close to the action. It was easy to be up early to photograph wildlife while it was still actively enjoying the cool morning light. While we rested in the shade of the sun during the middle of the day, we were back at it until sundown.
It was the best mobile safari camp experience possible. Sleeping in the bush, with everything we needed brought in—lights, food, warm and cold water, and shelter—the night rewarded us with a dark sky filled with stars that looked close enough to touch. The sounds of wildlife rocked us to sleep and gently woke us in the morning.
During the trip, we also spent a few nights in comfortable lodges with excellent food and hospitality. Still, the best food was cooked over an open flame or baked buried with coals underground. Sam’s cooks were the best; their tasty flavors for various grains and vegetables heightened the rest of the meal.
David and Sam’s cheerful, friendly personalities brought the rest of us into the fold, and we all became friends with stories to tell for the rest of our lives.Written 22 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Last September, 2024, we went to Botswana.
I started looking at options in April 2024 and came across the Okavango Safari Exploration trip. This was exactly what we were looking for. I liked the idea of the small group, and camping out, and also being with a guide who knew the area. All the reviews that I read reinforced my initial impression.
After 2 nights in Maun, Theno, our guide, picked us up at our hotel and we drove to the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, entering the park at South Gate. We met the second vehicle and the 2 other members of Theno's team on the way. The first wildlife that we saw was a group of 7 or so giraffes outside the park, followed soon after by a single kudu. We stopped at the South Gate for a packed lunch, and then travelled on to the campsite .
We stayed 3 nights in the first campsite, Xini (?), then moved on to Khwai for 4 nights, followed by 2 nights in Savute and the last night in Kasane town. We were taken to our hotel in Kasane the following day. As we were a small group, we weren't asked to help out with the work. I believe this is more the case with larger groups.. We shared a spacious tent with an annex at the rear with a shower and toilet. The tent had a comfortable stretcher bed each, complete with a mattress, pillow and bedding. Very nice. The lads had a similar one person tent each. All meals were cooked by the 2 lads, Miambo and Malachy, and it was excellent.
Each day we would get up early and go out with Theno in the vehicle. We saw elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, impalas, zebras etc. We saw lions on numerous occasions, once we saw 4 cheetahs and twice we saw leopards. There were also wild dogs, hyenas, jackals as well as many, many birds.
At Khwai there is a large body of water and here there were hippos and crocodiles. Lots of elephants, my favourite, in the water. I heard the hippos in the night from the tent. Another night I heard lions calling nearby. There was a honey badger near our first campsite. We were called out one morning to see about 30 elephants passing by our campsite, That was brilliant.
To sumarise. Theno, Miambo, and Malachy are all great guys. Everything was easy, welcoming and well organised. We went out to see the animals in the morning, coming back for lunch. This was followed by a couple of hours rest time in the camp and we would head out again later in the afternoon when the animals are more active. We returned to a shower and dinner then relaxed till bedtime. Theno is a brilliant guide, he has lots of information about the wildlife. He has a great ability to find the animals and drives expertly on the sometimes very challenging roads. The guides are in touch with each other by radio, so if there is something to see we hear about it. Wildlife is abundant in all areas.
I have traveled quite a bit over the last 50 years. This was one of the more memorable trips that I have done.

It started and ended by a game drive (we could see many animals). In between, we did a mokoro trip and a nature walk with another very nice guide. The lunch was delicious.
Thato is a very nice person. He saw animals we were hardly be able to spot with his indications and he provides a lot of interesting information. He really loves what is doing (he took many pictures too :-)Written 17 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The only positive feedback I can give is about the 3 guys that came with us (Kaiser, Orabile and Montsho ... hope I spell correctly): they did a good job and it wasn't easy as the equipment was very run-down and the vehicle was a scrap - both the car and the trailer.
From the very beginning we realized that our high expectations would have been disappointed: the first day during the pick up from the lodge we were informed that the car engine wasn't working properly and that they had to buy some items to fix it temporarily, before we could leave for our safari. Of course this caused a lot of unexpected stops and delays during our 2 first days in Nxai Pan park.
Once back in Maun we tried to contact Boitumelo to ask for vehicle replacement but we got a message from him only late at night saying that the car was ok. The morning after we met him at the agency and once again he affirmed that the vehicle was "perfect" and that we shouldn't have been so worried - as if providing a car in such evident bad conditions could be the most professional thing to do to make a customer happy.
During the next 6 days in the Delta our guide managed to keep alive the engine with daily fixes, even if we had some additional problems (battery, refrigerator) but on the way from Savuti to Chobe park a welding in the trailer (done on an old damage) wore out so we had to leave the trailer there, move all the equipment to the car and travel for 6 hours to Kasane, ending our mobile safari one day earlier.Written 21 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The accommodation, service and food were wonderful and we were looked after well by the awesome staff. Each day on safari we saw lots of animals. Big thanks to Lets and Robson who while respecting the animals enabled us to safely get really close to them. After successfully tracking a leopard it was a truly emotional moment when she slowly walked in front of us and sat down. Elephants feeding in the water also wandered close while we were in a mokoro. Such a special time,

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Roger Fothergill1 contributionWe had a day safari into Moremi NP from Maun (we were time limited so could not do the more usual trip of a few nights in the Delta proper, which for us is too expensive). I am a keen birder and asked the manager of our hotel (Sedia Riverside) to try and get me the best bird guide available. He succeeded!! Tutalife was exceptionable! There wasn;t a question I had he couldn't answer. Apart from the expected Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra and Impala etc I saw 129 species of bird of which 21 I had not seen before (I have seen over 2000 species worldwide and any new trip if I see 6 new species that is very good, 21 new species is exceptional. Highlights for me were Double Banded Sandgrouse, Bateleur Eagle, Bennett's Woodpecker, Swainson's Spurfowl, Southern Red and Yellow Billed Hornbills, Southern White Headed Shrike, Magpie Shrike, Southern Carmine Bee Eater, Black Coucal, Kurrichane Buttonquail and Southern Ground Hornbill. Many of these I would not have seen without Tutalife's expertise. I cannot speak highly enough, we had a wonderful dayWritten 24 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OgotsengGaborone, Botswana4 contributionsWe did a day trip to Moremi Game Reserve with Imela Wilderness. The service was just out of this. We left Gaborone by flight to Maun where they collected us from the airport to our hotel. We were informed that our day trip will start at 0600hrs and at exactly 0545 hours our guide was already waiting for us at the hotel. It was a 2 hours drive to Moremi. The guide, Gibson was really good and his 4x4 driving skills were out of this world. We had our breakfast upon arrival, did a moring game drive until around 1200 hrs, then had our packed lunch which was really nice. Drinks were also on board and we had an opportunities to see elephants, baboons, buffalo, a lion pride, giraffes, zebra and a lot of other animals and birds. It really felt like a little heaven on earth and just wished the trip could not end. The day went by so quick. We returned back to Maun at around 1600 hrs.Written 2 July 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- jo schineider4 contributionsMG and his team prepared a perfect itinerary for our trip to Maun,Botswana. The campsites, transfers between campsites and from and back airports, guide in Kasane were perfectly planned. We had no glitches at all during the trip. MG was in constant contact during the planning stages of our team and always very responsive to our questions. He helped us with selecting our campsites and picked wonderful routes for our drives and stays for. We also had a phone call closer to the beginning of our trip where MG answered all our questions. Would highly recommend the company for your travel needs in Botswana.Written 14 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
