My first visit to the Yuma Territorial Prison State Historical Park, located in Yuma, Arizona, was back in December of 1963 (Yes, Nineteen Sixty Three) when my family and I lived in Yuma.
Yuma Territorial Prison State Park will transport you back to the late 1700's and early 1800's.

Follow one of several paths down to the river or stroll up river to several more parks all linked together or, stroll downstream for more of the Colorado and watch rafters, and tubers floating down the river.

The park is a great meeting place to begin a beautiful leisurely stroll, bike, run, or just enjoy sitting on one of the many benches/seats and enjoy the birds singing, and sound of the water running by.
Gateway Park is Refreshing, the water is so cold you forget that the real weather is very hot and you can enjoy the entire day.

This is a nice park, with easy trails and lots of good places to see birds and Nature in general.
Nice paved trail through the parks along the river.
Imperial National Wildlife Refuge

The area where the trail is looks like a mix between the badlands in South Dakota and the Painted Desert National Park in northern Arizona.
We ate lunch at the nice lake park.

There are plenty of little private spots where you can park your car by the water and relax outside your car.
I see a lot of people boating & fishing during visits but I've visited only to be closer to nature & do some bird watching.

Yuma boasts a state of the art athletic complex, many ball fields in several parks, fishing opportunities for all ages, walking/running paths, picnic areas and well maintained public areas like West Wetlands Park.

I know - you can see Canada Geese at any park and they are almost a pest.
