What travellers are saying
- Tita ElvieCanada102 contributionsAmazing hike and views. Highly recommend this trail and hike. We did a loop around and went up Cathedral Rock in the middle of it. The loop was runnable and beautiful.
Highly recommend.Written 10 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Mass Services are held at 3pm each day. There is a fantastic gift shop, so save space in your luggage to take things home. Very reasonably priced items that you will want to buy!!! Suggest you go as soon as they open - noon - because it gets VERY crowded. You can drive there - parking is plentiful, but it is a hike up to the church. Or you can take one of the trolley trips.Written 11 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BobiTychynskiShimodaOakville, Canada346 contributionsThis was an extremely rewarding hike! It is for the able bodied -for sure - as there are some points that requires climbing up some actual rocks as opposed to walking on a rocky trail. The parking is a bit scarce so we ended up parking on a nearby road but those spots are scarce too. I understand there is a shuttle from town. We arrived by 9a.m. On a cool day on March and the parking lot was already full.
We recommend some hiking boots and a warm hoody at this time or year. It was cold and windy up there! The dust can also tend to get in your eyes so sunglasses helped there. There is a good amount of shade.
It took about an hour to hike from the parking area to the bridge. When you get to the top, it is orderly and people wait in line to take a picture on the bridge. People all seemed willing to photograph each other - a sort of unwritten rule. Give we went so early, the wait to do our photo op was about 20 minutes but I understand it can be up to 2 hours.Written 18 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. When the lighting is just right, it’s a magnificent thing to behold.Written 8 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carol RAbrams, WI98 contributionsWe drove through the canyon on highway 89A. The views are so beautiful. We did a stop at Slide Rock National Park for a few hours and it was so amazing. Also stopped at a Dairy Queen in the canyon to cool down (LONG waits just for ice cream). We traveled through the canyon 3 of the 4 days we were staying in Sedona. Just breathtakingWritten 15 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Charles SBerkeley, CA91 contributionsThe scenery was stunning as other reviews have suggested, but you are hardly alone in the wilderness. The trail roughly parallels a 4x4 jeep trail, and we probably saw 20 or so "pink" jeeps, as well as a few other jeeps (a few playing loud music.) Additionally, there was a number of hikers and mountain bikers on the trail. Still, it was well worth it. It was spectacular!
A slight cautionary note: Not too far beyond the detour trail to Submarine Rock, we apparently somehow missed staying on the Broken Arrow Trail and ended up on "High on the Hog" trail. See the map. Usually, the intersections were well signed, and there are frequent cairns, but despite generally paying close attention, we did not see any trail intersection, and only on our return did we notice the double black diamond sign. It was however apparent that the trail changed. It was much more difficult and quite narrow along some significant drop-offs. After perhaps a half mile, we thought, "enough of this," and turned back.
Personally, I did not think the side trip to Submarine Rock was worth it. That trail goes down, so the views are very much diminished, and the rock itself, despite an interesting shape, was not substantially different that the other rocks we walked on.Written 1 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was beautiful driving south along the scenic routes. After stopping in town for lunch at Pumphouse Station Urban Eatery, we drove up to Airport Mesa. We opted just to do the overlook at the top, not the hike. It was easy to find the parking lot. Just follow the road all the way up and you can't miss it on the left. It cost $3 to park. VERY reasonable considering the prices at most parks, sites, and restaurants in AZ. We crossed the road (see pic) to the overlook which is a wide gravel area. There is not a fence at the edge, so beware. It's a good place to get a beautiful view of the whole Sedona landscape.Written 26 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Th3HappyTravelerReynoldsburg, OH200 contributionsStunning setting as Oak Creek carves its way over the flat red rocks with some small rapids that folks use to cool off on hot days. We visited in March so water was too cold for that. But enjoyed the Pendley Homestead Trail, Clifftop Trail and the lower Creekside path. Admission was $20 per car in March but is higher on weekends/peak season. The America the Beautiful pass is not accepted here. Nice bathrooms and even a small snack/ice cream/market which opens in warmer weather.Written 8 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Lauren DFort Worth, TX1 contributionWhat an invigorating walk. I came here so I wouldn't be stressed by the rush of common tourist attractions, and that's exactly what I got. Great guides to guide us, as there are certain points on the walk where you don't know which way to go. lol
I didn't take a photo to show the landscape because I wanted to relax. But it's very worth it.Written 21 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. My friends and I walked along the paths and enjoyed a beautiful early morning there. We were the only visitors at that time. Tons of birds due to the multiple bird feeders. Learned more about the Buddhist faith from reading the signage. Definitely worth a visit for everyone of all faiths.Written 19 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
