In the heart of Stellenbosch you will find the Stellenbosch University Botantical Gardens. The diverse vegetation in the gardens is amazing and there are numerous paths exploring different areas spread throughout where you can take in the beauty, learn about the different plant species and even bring a picnic to enjoy there. When we visited the entrance fee was R 15.00 per person which is very budget friendly and as they are open every day of the week, excluding certain public holidays, there is no reason to not visit even just for a quick walk around. The Katjiepiering Restaurant (reviewed separately) is also located within the garden and is a good option to grab breakfast or brunch. Whether you are a couple wanting to go for a romantic walk, a family with kids or even on your own, this is a great place to spend some time and take in the natural surroundings.

The gardens are beautiful. So many different textures and the way that they have been sculpted in places leaves you wondering how they did it. The sculptures are magnificent and when you look at them from different angles you get a different interpretation each time. The walk is only only 2km long and it is up and down but it is not too taxing as long as you are mobile. It is a great place to sit and contemplate as the views are just stunning. I would love to go back if we are in the area again.

I enjoyed my time with my children in the giraffe house, really it is a beautiful and wonderful place to walk and look out for the animals not only the giraffes, there are also turtles, snakes, some birds, and zebras.

We were celebrating or 34 wedding anniversary and my husband booked the luxury room without consulting me. The room was wonderful, but it was the private verandah that delighted.Out of the wind and shaded, we sat there till late and watched the zebra, springbok and other antelope we didn't recognise, graze. At some stage a zebra took a sand bath and then frolicked and bounced around with guinea fowl scattering in all directions. In the late afternoon, antelope that we did not recognise, emerged from the riverine. Google informed us that these were Nyala - a male and two females, We were intrigued.
We did two sound walks around the farm enjoying the views and bird life, accompanied by four dogs delighted to show us their farm.
The wine is excellent and we supplemented our cellar.
Altogether a delightful experience. We will back and next time in one of the cottages and for at least three nights.

We were part of a group of about 30 on a wine and dine lunch with pre-ordered 3/2 couse meal from a pre-determined selection e.g 2 starters, 3 main and creme brulee or sorbet for dessert (Choose either starter or dessert). The risotto starter was excellent, always a good test of the kitchen, our group of 3 had the butter chicken main course which was excellent and one sorbet and one creme brulee. Both much appreciated. Heard no complaints about the food.

R300 for 2 courses with 5 wines to taste.

I would however not rush to return -maybe the experience would be better if not in a group

Surprised that only a small handul of other diners on a Thursday at the end of the tourist season

Attractive buildings and garden but not maintained as well as many other wineries. Plenty of parking,

Tasted a broad range of 5 wines of mixed appeal. Rated them generally slightly lower than Platter.

The best place where you can get the nature in all your photographs. I highly recommend families to have their Sunday Picnics here.

These gardens were constructed, built, cared for by one lady for her whole life until she died, just short of her 100th birthday. You feel that she planted each plant with care, making sure it was in a happy place. There is no formal garden approach, just love and joy. It is on a mountain side and is fed by natural spring water. You can wander and ponder and sit and contemplate and feel at peace. I think it would be nice to visit several times a year and see what it was like at different seasons.

I saw a video of the Jonkershoek Trails on a Specialized video a while back and always wanted to ride it.

It certainly didn't disappoint as a very enjoyable flow trail with great views.

The climb to the top is challenging, one certainly needs to be bike fit to make it!

The G-Spot firm favourite with my son and his buddies. Gets ones heart rate up as you climb the hill. Well maintained track and safe for the boys to cycle on their own should I wish to watch them from the bench midway down. Rules well observed by other riders making it safe for the younger less experienced kids to ride.

The ideal place to escape the hussle and bussle of suburban life. Nestled at the feet of the Jonkershoek mountains, one is surrounded by nature. Accesable picnic facilities makes this a popular spot for lazy family gatherings.
