In the heart of Stellenbosch you will find the Stellenbosch University Botantical Gardens. The diverse vegetation in the gardens is amazing and there are numerous paths exploring different areas spread throughout where you can take in the beauty, learn about the different plant species and even bring a picnic to enjoy there. When we visited the entrance fee was R 15.00 per person which is very budget friendly and as they are open every day of the week, excluding certain public holidays, there is no reason to not visit even just for a quick walk around. The Katjiepiering Restaurant (reviewed separately) is also located within the garden and is a good option to grab breakfast or brunch. Whether you are a couple wanting to go for a romantic walk, a family with kids or even on your own, this is a great place to spend some time and take in the natural surroundings.

The gardens are beautiful. So many different textures and the way that they have been sculpted in places leaves you wondering how they did it. The sculptures are magnificent and when you look at them from different angles you get a different interpretation each time. The walk is only only 2km long and it is up and down but it is not too taxing as long as you are mobile. It is a great place to sit and contemplate as the views are just stunning. I would love to go back if we are in the area again.

So informative and friendly, and we'll presented!

We went during the loadshedding but despite a lack of power the ladies in the period houses did wonderful jobs of informing us of the houses and answering and and all questions we had!

My only regret was we didn't get to see the last house as we had to rush off! So sad!

Would absolutely reccomend, such a good time!

Thouroghly enjoyed the Rupert, it had a wide array of art to suit a few tastes, and the Johannesburg station collection were breathtaking, some of my favourite art I've ever seen. Haven't stopped thinking about them! Well worth a visit!

What a step back into the past. Reminiscing about the past. The toys we remember and the collection of the dinky toys or match box cars are the largest collection we have ever seen. Loved the model train set and it actually runs. Just pop in a R5 coin and watch it go. Great attention to detail. Would definitely reccomend.

Gavin Collins specialises in large scale canvases and really captures the African skies and wildlife beautifully. We didn’t leave empty-handed!

A beautiful art gallery situated in the heart of Stellenbosch. I'd recommend a visit for anyone interested in seeing some of South Africa's best fine art on display.

This gallery gets its initials from its full name, the Gallery of the University of Stellenbosch. It's located in what looks as though it may previously have been a church. The main gallery space is a big, high ceilinged room, which is the perfect location for the dresses, masks and undergarments on show, many in vivid colours. The works have been produced by Lizette Chirrime and her sewing circle. There are also other spaces, innuse for this exhibition as working spaces for the artist and her team. The information boards are helpful, providing plenty of background about the exhibition and the artist's influences and motivations. Really enjo0yed both the exhibition and the gallery space.

The Ghetto Art Gallery is a very special gallery on the end of Bird street. When we came in we were heartily greeted by the owner, Bongo. He told us about the ideas behind the gallery: he wants to provide a platform for township artists and build bridges between Stellenbosch and Kayamandi (the township next to Stellenbosch; the location is strategically chosen). In the back of the gallery is a work- and performance space. An artist, Lundi, was working there at the moment we were there. He showed us his works and told us about it, what was very interesting.

I would highly recommend this gallery if you are interested in art and local culture. The owner is very passionate and interesting conversations are assured. The guys also started organising township Art Story Tours, where they walk through Kayamandi following an art route. Besides this they organise open mic nights. These are new concepts so if you're interested ask Bongo about it.

This small gallery is a worthwhile stop. The curator, Gerrit & is assistant, who's name escapes me, are friendly and welcoming. The gallery is small but houses beautifully selected art for the serious collector, or simply to view, appreciate and enjoy.
    Highly recommended!

The shop is an colorful experience with jewelry paintings and indigenous art. The owner Porchie is a warm and friendly host who invites you into his creative space. A Bonus if he is in the shop when you visit.

Amazingly beautiful and well crafted original jewelry. The great experience was enhanced by the great client experience offered by the gold smith (Vincent) who provided lots of insight into his jewelry and useful advice regarding what would suit me best. Well worth another visit when I go back.
