- BarbF10 contributionsOur halfday trip to Stellenbosch winelands was just a little bit below our expectations. As we are not big on wine drinking, we were thinking that a full day tour would have been too much, but with more information we would probably opt out for it instead. First, pick up times seemed to not have been communicated properly, we were picked up 30 minutes earlier than our ticket suggested, and there was another person that 'wasn't ready on time' so our guide asked him to take an Uber to the first winery. At both wineries, the tables were not ready when we arrived, and waiting times to be seated, for setting up the table and between wines were quite longer than the whole group expected (this is probably not the reflection of the tour organiser, but it didn't seem like our guide was surprised so it might be a regular occurence). With all that, we had no time at all to walk around the winelands, and even the driving tour around the city of Stellenbosch was very short with no stops or historical information. Finally, the wines were also underwhelming, which might have been a result of time limitation and choosing wineries closer to the city. Overall, if you are looking to experience the atmosphere and tastes of South African winelands, I strongly recommend to take a whole day tram tour instead. If you are in a rush and can only dedicate half a day to it, self driving to the best winery might also be for you. We met some nice people on this tour, and got to taste wines in pairing with both cheese and biltong, but we believe there is more to Stellenbosch winelands and we would like to come back for a more extensive tour.Written 22 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Etrai2 contributionsGreat tour! Tasted lots of varieties of wines! I wound have liked to take a longer trip on the tram. The description was a bit deceiving. I thought the whole trip was going to be of taking the tram to the various wineries. I wasn’t a big fan of Rickety Bridge. The wines weren’t as good nor was the atmosphere. He was very flexible with the itinerary and adjusted as per our requests. His tour was excellent. - Travelers005NY107 contributionsAlana at Born Free Safaris connected us with Martin as our guide for 5 days. He met us at the airport in CapeTown and we 4 immediately liked him as he had suggestions for our time and was quite knowledgeable about most any topic. We had a couple unfortunate health incidents and he supported us through them with care. Martin drove us down to the Cape of Good Hope and up the other side of the peninsula to Boulders Beach to see the African Penguin colony and then on to Stellenbosch. His specialty is wine and we did spend 2 days in the Stellenbosch area with him. We had chosen 4 wineries that we thought we'd enjoy, and Martin was happy to take us to each of them. However, he had a couple other suggestions that we agreed to and were so very glad we did. The wines and the people at the wineries were all excellent. Our time was well spent and fun! If we return to South Africa, it would be to stay in Stellenbosch and tour more wineries with Martin! Emma was super accommodating and we stopped at such amazing places. I loved her recommendations and would definitely tell my friends and family to use this company in the future, and to request Emma.

- Jim MTipp City, OH9 contributionsOur tour guide Ruben was outstanding taking the time to explain so many things throughout the trip. Our tour group consisted of our family ages 9 to 64 so there was a wide range of questions which Ruben answered patiently and completely also looking for ways to make our tour extra special. Ruben was very easy to understand to our United States group which has presented in past with some tours. The sights were outstanding. We were unable to visit Robbens Island because of its closure Ruben took our group to the prison from which Mandela was released. Great trip for a family of all ages. Spectacular photo opportunities.
