We visited 4 stunning wineries where we sampled excellent wines and had a delicious lunch at the very scenic Tokara Estate. The day passed by so quickly as we were enjoying it so much.
It was a pleasure to chat with our guide John about the wines and South Africa in general. He was extremely knowledgeable and he definitely added to our experience. We could not have asked for a better guide.
We found the tour to be excellent value for money and could not recommend this tour more highly! - Arnar G3 contributionsMe and my girlfriend booked this tour, since we had heard a lot about the great wines from South Africa. From the moment we booked until the moment Cedric dropped us off at our hotel, everything was perfect. In the days leading up to the tour Cedric communicated clearly, let us know what we should expect, asked us questions about what types of wines we liked and disliked, how experienced we were, if we were looking for something special, etc. He even sent us a message the evening before to remind us he would be picking us up in the morning. When the day of the tour arrived, he was there a few minutes early and greeted us in the lobby of our hotel. Immediately you felt his warmth and professionalism, which we thought was very important given that we were spending the day with him! And off we went! We went to a total of four wineries, and Cedric did everything to make sure we would be visiting wineries of our liking. We asked for a winery with sparkling wine, another with great red wine, another with great white wine and then one that would be beautiful - and we got them all! All the wineries were so different in their own way, the landscape so beautiful and Cedric very knowledgeable - not only about the wines and the wineries, but also about South Africa and other parts of Africa as well. The day flew by, and all of a sudden we had arrived back at the hotel.
We truly recommend this tour, and we believe it would not matter if it would be Cedric or someone from his team that would be hosting it. He cares a lot for his team, and even more for his guests, so we’re absolutely certain that everyone on his team is great. This is a tour where you get so much more than just wine or wineries. We loved every minute of it, and we will definitely be giving Cedric a shout if we’re back in Cape Town so that he could take us on another tour.

Inbetween average and very good
Guide was cheerful and a nice enough chap and on time when collecting but after a while he did waffle. I came in this trip because I don’t know much about wine and wanted to learn about it. Shopping time in a stop off point I can do anytime, this was a vineyard tour. 3 vineyards part of the trip.
Stop 1 Was the most thorough, see the room with the barrels, then sit down and try a white a rose and
a red. Hints of caramel, vanilla, strawberry etc, little did we know that as the day went on it was going to be the same script but more progressively rushed on each stop.
Stop 2. Lovely place, sommelier there trying to manage a room with different tours all at once -didn’t get to try all the wines we were supposed to be trying before being ushered out to go to the lunch stop half an hour away.
Stop 3 (after lunch) tram ride through beautiful countryside, lovely, venue exquisite and reminding me of an old colonial place you see in the films
I’m glad we did the trip and the guys were nice folks but I must be honest and say I’ve come back still not knowing anything about wines other than they all have the same aromas apparently
There was a real international mix of people which was cool, the impromptu stop to see the Nelson Mandela prison where he was released from was a nice touch too. The guide was a nice guy and was there throughout. I blame the company more than the employees here, they need better planning and should make it more educational insisting that enough and equipped sommeliers are in attendance and able to educate
Feedback for the African Eagle company that organised this trip, the review form that you are asked to complete is more of an assessment of the guide’s performance than an opportunity for them to get feedback on the trip itself. Our driver did a great job of explaining the sights on the way to the wineries and gave us an informative look at the political history of Cape Town. He was extremely knowledgeable & the banter just flowed, we had an absolute ball from talking through different wines, varietals to cricket & rugby.... George is the host with the most! The wineries themselves, spectacular! The wines, beautiful & lunch was perfect. We sampled 3 different wineries as well as a short train and tractor ride. Great value and well organised. I was lucky enough to be the only one on the tour with Tequila (horse) and one of the owners (Rudi?) that day, so I had plenty of opportunities to ask questions and learn about the quite unpleasant past of the horses as well as about the steps taken to rescue them. One could clearly see that the present owners care about the horses and their wellbeing. An absolutely worthwile (and informative) trip to beautiful Stellenbosch vineyards on horseback in nice company.
