Fairview is a great staple vineyard to go to. Great wines and great atmosphere. Do try the sweet red, slightly fortified and a superb dessert wine. I was skeptical at first but I always buy when I'm here.
Today we had Imke as our wine host and she was spectacular. Despite being new she was knowledgeable, really made us feel welcome and it completed our excellent experience with a cherry (well cheese) on top!

Three of us headed early out to Paarl to experience the Spice Route journey, and had an enjoyable day spent under the trees.

The heritage of Spice Route Destination goes back to the historical mariners who used to trade Eastern spices to Europe along the “Spice Route” for the spice trade in the 15th century.

So what is this Spice Route passport all about?
It's an invitation to navigate through a world of artisans, flavours and experiences here in the heart of the Paarl Winelands. Each vendor is within comfortable walking distance from each other, and the beauty of it is that you determine your own journey of discovery.

The artisans that we visited to name just a few:
~ The Chocolate Room by Beyers.
~ Wilderer Distillery for a tasting of their spirits.
~ CBC Cape Brewing Co for some premium craft beers.
~ A wine tasting at the Spice Route Tasting Room.
~ Jewells for a selection of traditional charcuterie.
~ Brenda's Preserves to do some spice shopping.

Time-wise: It says to allow yourself at least 2 hours to savour the 5 artisanal tastings, but we found that it is better to do one or two at a time and really soak up each experience. There's plenty of time and opportunity to return for each.

Top tip: Paarl in the Summer is a warm destination. Dress comfortably, bring a hat if possible and wear that sunscreen.

There are ten wines to try and the pours are generous. It would have been nice to have something to eat to cleanse the palate between tastes. Our server was very informative and cordial. The tastings are done at tables outdoors, so if the weather is hot, it's hot.
