This is the middle of the CBD. The gardens are at the middle of a bunch of historic places and museums. The gardens themselves are very nice and well maintained. There is a very nice cafe with outside and inside seating, as well as a smaller "gardeners cottage" that also serves food in a quiet, small area. The National Gallery, The History and Science Museum, the National Library and the Slave lodge are all in and around the gardens. At the very top end is the very posh hotel the Mount Nelson. it's quiet, but not empty.

I frequently visit the Chart Farm Coffee Shop when visiting from Australia. The atmosphere is great. The views from the Chart Farm stretchers as far as the eye can see to Muizenberg, Silvermine and back of Table Mountains not to mention the Constantia Valley below. When in season, you can pick your own roses and grapes at the farm. I must congratulate the proprietors of the Chart Farm Coffee Shop Sandra and Philip Engelen and their staff for the beautiful meals, friendly hospitality and fantastic customer services and people skills. A gem of a place and definitely worth a visit for a meal. Opening hours are from 0900-1600 every day. Suggest booking a table.

Peaceful haven of beautiful trees - off the beaten track but worth a look if you enjoy Bonsai . Sometimes for sale at reasonable prices .
