I have just returned to Dubai after spending a week with friends who reside in Newlands, which is part of Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs.
Newlands itself houses both the International Rugby and Cricket Stadiums, a Brewery, The Kelvin Grove Club, some excellent restaurants and The Vineyard Hotel. Several shopping centres are in the vicinity of this old established residential suburb.
The Southern Suburbs contain major landmarks such as The University of Cape Town, The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, The Rhodes Memorial, The Groot Schuur Hospital where the Heart Transplant Museum is located, etc.
Cape Town International Airport is a short drive away, as are some excellent beaches such as Fish Hoek, St. James and Muizenberg.
Cape Town City Centre is also not too far away although traffic can be an issue during rush hour.
Although I have visited Cape Town on many occasions over the years, this was the first time I stayed in Newlands / the Southern Suburbs.
