What a wonderful setting. Overlooking Lake Panic and the 9-hole golf course. Hippos, crocodiles and other animals on view from the vast deck. Food and service was great, good value for money. Planning our next trip there to play a round of golf.

Not to be confused with Orpen Gate to the west, Orpen Dam & Lookout Point is located along S32 to the east of Tshokwane. This is a stop with parking space for around 7-8 vehicles. You will find toilets as well as a covered seating area with panoramic views of the Orpen Dam down below.

We stopped here a couple times during our recent stay in Kruger National Park (KNP). It is convenient to visit for those plying the roads between Satara, Skukusa and Tshokwane. The dam has hippos, crocs and we were able to spot waterbuck and bush buck along with Fish eagles, ducks, cranes and other bird species. It is a nice rest break or spot to have a light breakfast or lunch while watching over a large dam and hillside.

The Parks Shop within the Skukuza Rest Camp is a go-to if you are looking to do some shopping. As the flagship store within the Kruger National Park, it has an impressive selection of products to cater to every need. Its products range from fresh and frozen items to camping gear, souvenirs, and even a selection of local craft beers. There is definitely something for everyone, and you are likely to find what you are looking for, or at least a good alternative. The service on the other hand would benefit from an improvement. The staff could be friendlier and more efficient, and that's the only reason I didn't score the shop a 5/5. Regardless of this, if you are visiting Skukuza in any way, The Parks Shop is definitely worth a visit.

I went to this spa two times during my stay in the Kruger gate hotel. I did the African goddess facial which was really nice and relaxing including a short back massage and a 7 or 8 step facial treatment. The products were high quality and I really enjoyed it. I also took a back, neck and shoulder message which was really nice after the long safaris. The women working there where super nice and friendly - offering drinks and giving you feet peeling before every treatment. The Ambient is also amazing and beautifully decorated. There are several rooms for single or treatments for two where you can enjoy massages together with a friend, your partner or your family and if your lucky some animals are walking next to the rooms. I highly recommend it.

My interactions with Wayne were prompt and efficient.

The package I choose was four nights five days at Tremisana, which is operated by Viva Tours, and it was wonderful. Everything about our stay was well planned and executed and the guides were brilliant. All staff at the lodge from the cleaners to kitchen staff as well as management were focused on service and our experience was further enhanced by this.
The lodge is a little rustic but you are going on safari so it is part of the experience.
    In sum A+ all round

Our safari to Kruger NP with Red Africa was exceptionally wonderful! Everything went very smoothly and we were very professionally taken care of in every detail, from our initial pickup in Johannesburg, to our drop-off again five days later. Jaco, our driver and top-notch expert on "all things Kruger and Big 5 + Wildlife", was a wonderful fellow to spend much time with as we traveled around. He is a veritable "fount of information" that makes everything so much more meaningful and interesting. The tour provided a wide variety of exceptional experiences, locations, and perspectives. We loved every minute of it.

The eco-lodge that was our accommodation in Hazyview was terrific, a luxury resort itself, and they accommodate crazy safari daily schedules very well, especially the pre-dawn starts to the day. Be sure to dress very warmly for those early starts!

Keegan, our main game-drive driver and guide, was also excellent. He knows the park and the animals down to the smallest detail and has such an infectious enthusiasm for showing visitors as much as he can, with good instincts on where to look for the game. Both Jaco and Keegan truly love their jobs, which makes travel with them such a joy.

Red Africa was a great company to work with. All communications were well-handled, all schedules were promptly kept, and because of all we saw and experienced, the whole experience felt "priceless". We are blessed to be able to have this opportunity, and to see so many wonderful animals in the wild (all Big 5, plus dozens more!) behaving the way they were created to be. We also had a great time at the elephant reserve, interacting in neat ways with elephants in ways you cannot in the bush. Our tour of the Panorama Route and a boat ride was another way to see certain animals and just soak in and enjoy the scenery of Drakensberg Mountains and a piece of South Africa.

It is important to consider carefully a tour company for a safari in South Africa. You'll be together for several days and want just the perfect experience. We highly recommend Red Africa to be that company. The memories are going to last forever for us.

The expert naturalist guides (we had two, Neil and Jerry) made this trip life changing. Every day we would drive out into the bush to greet the animals and all they had to teach us about living life on this fragile planet. The Kruger Park accommodations ranged from excellent to acceptable. I never felt concerned about cleanliness or our safety. The food was ample and delicious home cooking. We were very well taken care of and I am so grateful to have taken this magnificent adventure with Bearded Heron.

Keegan was simply wonderful. We did a full day safari with him and our kids and he was great at communicating, amazing at finding animals, wonderful communication and taught us so much. I can’t tell you how highly we all would all recommend Keegan. Created memories of a lifetime. A great small business to support and very environmentally minded.

I was looking for a stay in/around Kruger + game drives at Kruger + travel logistics from Johannesburg; Wild Kruger provided the solution in the form of a detailed package. Booking through Wild Kruger/Johan Buys was one of the most seamless and most professional travel experiences I’ve had.

Johan is fast to respond and presents all the intricate details as to what one should expect in stay, food, travel/logistics. This level of detailing, transparency and response time made me choose Wild Kruger over other tour operators.

Johan also went above and beyond to provide answers outside of the itinerary through great recommendations on stay (outside of this package) and accommodated last minute travel logistics requests as well. We loved the special gifts on our special occasion too!

With Wild Kruger be rest assured, that you’re being taken care of by professionals and in safe hands especially if it’s your first time in South Africa.
