My father and I had an excellent time. We watched the dolphins do tricks 🐬 and explored the aquarium and visited the penguins 🐧. Even took a picture with a turtle 🐢 that looks like it wanted to take a selfie with us

This was the second time we have stayed overnight and the third time we have been on the game drive and definitely want to do it again; and that's really the best recommendation isn't it? We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with the game drive as the highlight. The guides were all great and went "above and beyond" to keep the drives interesting. Each has his own particular interests so you get a different perspective each time.

We walked from Ushaka Marine Park along the promenade to South Beach which is very nice and easy for anyone in a wheelchair. The views of the beach were nice.

However, we felt very uncomfortable at the number of locals in large groups sitting on the grass opposite the beach, watching us. In fairness we were not approached by them but the sheer numbers and police presence made us very wary and we did not walk the whole of the mile. In addition we didn't go on the beach until we got back to Ushaka where we felt safer.

We visited Ushaka aquarium and water park with our kids aged 7 and 4. They had a great time. You enter through quite a random shopping 'village' and then can get separate tickets to enter the aquarium and the water park. We did both. The aquarium was fun. Amazing dolphin show all about sustainablity and the environment which was incredible to see but somewhat contradictory. The main bit of the aquarium with the tanks is in a huge ship which was cool. The rest was a bit hit or miss. The penguins' enclosure was a bit sad.
The water park wasn't the most modern and wasn't so clean but the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.

We enjoyed the beautiful country-side drive to the area and loved the visit to the reptile park. The restaurant was mediocre at best with poor service and okay food which most of which were "out" on the menu offered.

There are a few things to do if you are not gambling, like watching a movie, eating at a restaurant or just enjoying the beachfront

Such an interesting curated collection of African artworks and home wears and ceremonial outfits
Had a private guided tour. Cost was R100pp, well worth it.
Loved the 'puppet dolls' in cultural outfits
Wish we'd stayed a bit longer and been able to wonder around by ourselves after the tour, and I'd taken more photo's.
Our guide was bubbly and knowledgeable.

Visited Mitchell Park Zoo after a long time and was surprised to see that it was kept in a good condition and the animals all looked healthy and well maintained. The price was very reasonable for youth and pensioners alike.
We followed up with a Milkshake and scone at The Blue Zoo restaurant which was just as enjoyable. Service was good and reasonably priced.

This seems to be in a congested area of town and getting in and out is difficult. The markets are small and crowded, most of them seem to have the same things. The incense that was burning mixed with the spices was hard on me personally and made me light headed. We spent about 20 mins in and saw what we wanted. I’m sure there is more, doesn’t seem like the best part of town, but I didn’t feel unsafe either.

Had a lovely walk yesterday, did the 9km Red walk which we did in a relaxing 3 hours. The place is the cleanest Nature Conservancy I've visited in the last few weeks in Durban, safe clean and spacious.
The very bottom forest section of the red walk was a bit noisy, but the forest wraith stream was beautiful.

We went for birding, saw a few new ones near the pond, but also got red Duiker, bush buck, and impala, not to mention The Zebra literally standing at the gate on arrival.

Got a day to chill, pack a picnic and head on out ..... well worth the visit. We will go back
