- Wade V PJohannesburg, South Africa74 contributionsAnother enjoyable afternoon. Relaxing and fun camera time. Not too much game but sometimes that’s how it goes. Interesting birds.Written 5 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GeneralShamuNew York City, NY848 contributionsSpent a full morning and half an afternoon doing two of the trails back to back. The Krokodilberg trail is the one labeled as ‘difficult’ so do that first - especially as early a start in the morning as is feasible. Even though this was labeled as ‘difficult’ it was anything but. On a scale of 1-10, where 10 is the hardest, this probably ranked a 4 to a max of 5. That’s coming from someone who hikes regularly while traveling but rarely exercises while not on vacation. If you are overweight and struggle to go up a couple flights of stairs then don’t bother with this trail as you’ll end up taking one of the exit routes along the way. Didn’t see any animals but did see a lot of birds, flowers and insects. Total time for the first trail was 4hr20min (with multiple rests, photo opportunities, etc…).
The Zebra trail is decidedly easier. It is probably a 2 on the same aforementioned scale of difficulty, or lack there of. We spent a solid two hours and ten minutes to do this trail but that was because we stumbled upon a herd of zebra and the lone wildebeest that joined them to munch on grass. Watching them behave entirely naturally with no safari jeeps surrounding them, ogling tourists, etc… was something we couldn’t pass up on (solid 20+ minutes).
Total time for the two trails with a break in between is ~7.5 hours tops.Written 2 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It very refreshing to walk in nature and watch animals. The most popular place in center of Pretoria where mostly people take opportunity to exercise in open air. The must visit for tourist, because basically the only old architecture you can see by walking. And of course take a photo with Mandela statue.Written 4 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SagreeDurban, South Africa139 contributionsFrom our experience & reviews of other travelers, without a doubt PRASA needs to suspend operation of the Blue Train from Pretoria to CT & vice-versa until these challenges are resolved.
Prior to our departure the Manager informed us the Pretoria Station is being revamped and we will be taken by coach to a nearby railway yard to board the train. He also highlighted the problems & delays we could experience due to cable theft, damage to infrastructure & load shedding.
Hospitality by the staff at the Blue Train Lounge in Pretoria & on board the train itself was excellent. The selection of meals catered for all tastes and there was an excellent range of wines available.
Due to our delayed departure we reached Kimberley later than scheduled so had limited time to spend at the Big Hole. It was disappointing to see so much litter strewn along the side of the tracks for most of the trip.
We had a long stop at Salbar, waited for a diesel engine to move the train. Finally back on track we enjoyed some beautiful scenery on the way to Worcester.
Another crisis at Worcester...unable to make journey to Cape Town...could be 4 to 5 hour delay. So coaches came to the rescue & transported us to Cape Town. Under the circumstances the Manager and staff did well in co-ordinating this though it now appears that this situation is the norm. From other reviews and our experience it seems that the Blue Train rarely reaches the Cape Town Station. Without these delays we would have an a perfect trip.Written 14 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It lifts my spirits because it has such a lively buzz. Incredibly cheap produce, very fresh and everyone is so friendly and helpful. The fresh breads, cheeses, coffee fruit and veg is definitely worth the early morning trip. - CharmainePretoria, South Africa27 contributionsWe are frequent visitors to the theater and akways have a very good time. The seating is comfotable and the stage is visible no matter where you sit. The shows are normally of a high standard and is great for a outing with friends or family or even only a couple. The bar is well stocked and there are a number of good restaurants in walking distance to have a lunch or dinner before or after the show. The personn is friendly and the sound in the theater is excellentWritten 9 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SimbaJohannesburg, South Africa119 contributionsDon’t do the 15km trail if you doubt your fitness. The last 6km (after the split between the 15km and the 10km) is the toughest and requires grit and mental toughness to get through to the end. Very good training with a backpack if one wants to prepare for multi-day backpacking trips.Written 1 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
