I normally go up the Monument for picnic and clearing my head. It very refreshing to walk in nature and watch animals. I always lose track of time when I am at the Monument.

We had a lovely time at the gardens with the highlight being seeing this massive statue of Mandela. There are photographers on-site that will capture great photos for a fee.

The Freedom Park is extremely significant for all South Africans and provides a number of opportunities for quiet introspection. The exhibits rival those of an art museum and lots of information and context is provided along the way, as visitors are exposed to events that formed the South Africa of today. To adequately take in the museum, S’khumbuto (main memorial for 8 conflicts that shaped South Africa) and Isivivane (a sacred, spiritual resting place for those who played a part in liberating the country) expect to spend at least 3 hours there. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. Although we did not try it out, there is also a restaurant.

Set in a spacious well-kept public park. Lovely for enjoying Pretoria's mostly good weather. Pity Huckleberry's food standard has dropped. But good for tea, cappuccino or soft drink.
