I had to go to Sandton for a half day workshop and thought that it would be senseless to hire a car. It was also my first time using the Gautrain.
There were signage to indicate how to get to the station on the airport.
On the airport, I had 2 min left. The service operator at the card machine told me to use my bank card and not bother to get a ticket as the costs were the same. The driver waited for me to board before departing. This whole process was easy.
Train trip was relaxing and easy. Continuous announcements along the route keeps one updated.
Once I arrived at Sandton station it was easy to navigate myself to street level. Another passenger told me to walk to West street to call an Uber. Ubers do not stop on the street at the station.
On my return trip had similar friendly assistance. Easy to use fuss-free service to get from Airport to Sandton.
Seats are comfortable. Train was clean. I felt safe in the train. Racks to stack luggage to free up leg space available.

Rea Vaya is one of Joburg's city bus operators with a network covering most important parts of the city. You can only use their buses if you have purchased a plastic card (price 35 Rand). You can load money on the card. A short distance with a Rea Vaya bus will cost 9 Rand.

Keep in mind that Rea Vaya buses are not frequent on Saturdays and Sundays. Their card can not be used for other means of public transport like Metrobus or Gautrain.

Generally safe if you are in a station or on a bus. However, walking to and from a bus stop even in the center of town is often problematic. Especially if you are a foreigner, you will be targeted by gangs (also during the day).

Particularly drivers may be rather indifferent and not very friendly. E.g. I asked a driver to warn me to get off in Melville. He didn't. On the way out of the bus he said "If you don't know where to get off, you should not get on this bus."

If travelling to and from Parkstation in CBD use the Rea Vaya bus station Parkstation West. From there it is relatively safe to reach the main hall of the Railway station and Bus terminals.

Another customer not getting a refund of their deposit,

Where is my deposit refund? 7 weeks after returning the car and 3 emails with their customer service team who acknowledge a refund is due and still nothing. You owe me R5,394.

Previously a really good company that I have recommended so many times but no more.

A good company thats gone wrong since the Enterprise partnership.

Avis and Hertz all the way from here,
