What travellers are saying
- JP_and_MariaSofia, Bulgaria526 contributionsThis is one of the best museums we have ever visited. We spent more than 4 and a half hours going through the permanent and temporary exhibitions (even though we tried to skip some parts...). It was so informative and moving at the same time. I feel that with all conflicts going around right now, each human being must visit this museum at least once in their life. We loved the "Born free" exhibition the most as it shows the country today through the generations of those born after 1994.Written 31 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - chrishelleBenoni, South Africa102 contributionsWhat a hidden gem, the city of Jo'burg had done good here.
A little run down but brings to the ambiance. The lady (sorry I did not get her name) was so welcoming and so professional.
There is awesome picnic spot and a braai (BBQ) facility to enjoy after the tour.

- BeautifulSalisbury, NC38 contributionsThis was truly a once in a lifetime experience/opportunity. Mama Lindi (Koko) was very warm and welcoming, and she made me feel at home. The food was delicious and specially prepared by Koko herself. - Benn NdzoyiyaCape Town, South Africa1 contributionI stayed for the first time at Satyagraha House in Johannesburg on a work trip, and I am still so taken!! It’s one of the only real museums in South Africa that is dedicated to the personal life of Gandhi. But I’m equally impressed with the extremely peaceful energy of the space.
The hotel staff Khanyi and Thato are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. From check-in to departure, all made very easy.
I stayed in the Kasturba Gandhi room which is the largest room right next to the museum and named after Gandhi’s wife. Comes with a fireplace, lots of natural lighting washing in, and beautiful interiors! Solid wi-fi, complete silence, and a spacious desk that looks out to the garden.
Location of the hotel was great with a short Uber trip away from Rosebank and Braamfontein.
Food-wise, they operate on a vegetarian menu and no alcohol is served, which makes sense because Gandhi was a strict vegetarian. The welcoming green tea with honey and lemon was so good that I requested it they served it with all my meals while I was there.
Lunch and dinner can also be booked. If you get there in the afternoon, especially with 2/3 or more joining you, ask about the high tea which I enjoyed in the library. All made right on the property, with produce from the food garden. The way they do breakfast is excellent. You order your choice of breakfast when you check in and it’s served in the morning.
I can honestly say probably one of the best places we have stayed in for a while. Highly recommend. Will definitely take my partner along for our next Joburg visit. And try and get my hands on that Africology signature scent!Written 10 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Maybe not for everyone but if you have an open mind would highly recommend.Written 13 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
