I went to the museum as part of a tour, so I was only able to spend a couple of hours at the museum. One could spend the the day at the museum. When getting your entry ticket, they give you a "white" or "Non-white" slip so you enter the museum in the appropriate line to enhance the overall experience.

This is the best Victorian house museum i have seen. better than some of the ones in the UK. I would recommend going and seeing it. Kathrine knows her stuff and is more than happy to answer any questions you might have.
Overall it was an amazing experience.

I’ve been to South Africa so many times and only now did I come across this museum which has so many military artefacts. I am so impressed by the exhibits of military uniforms aircrafts vehicles etc. also what really positively surprised me is the Polish connection exhibition with so much information and artefacts too! I’m originally from Poland and was always curious if there is any connection so there you go -:) I found lots that dates back to Jan Smuts times!! And also Outdshoorn - if you’re into history WWI and WWII it’s a place to visit. Prices are very reasonable so no complaints

Although the memorial is outside in an open space, being in the location where Hector Pieterson was murdered by the Apartheid state of South Africa was extremely heavy. The memorial is well maintained and the tour guides, including his sister, are well informed and engaging. It was very sad to see his sister - the schoolgirl in the picture running next to Hector and Mbuyisa, relay the story for tourists wanting to understand the history that she forms a part of. It was also here that I learned that the schoolboy who was carrying Hector, Mbuyisa disappeared and no one knows what happened to him.

I stayed for the first time at Satyagraha House in Johannesburg on a work trip, and I am still so taken!! It’s one of the only real museums in South Africa that is dedicated to the personal life of Gandhi. But I’m equally impressed with the extremely peaceful energy of the space.

The hotel staff Khanyi and Thato are extremely helpful and nothing is too much trouble. From check-in to departure, all made very easy.

I stayed in the Kasturba Gandhi room which is the largest room right next to the museum and named after Gandhi’s wife. Comes with a fireplace, lots of natural lighting washing in, and beautiful interiors! Solid wi-fi, complete silence, and a spacious desk that looks out to the garden.

Location of the hotel was great with a short Uber trip away from Rosebank and Braamfontein.

Food-wise, they operate on a vegetarian menu and no alcohol is served, which makes sense because Gandhi was a strict vegetarian. The welcoming green tea with honey and lemon was so good that I requested it they served it with all my meals while I was there.

Lunch and dinner can also be booked. If you get there in the afternoon, especially with 2/3 or more joining you, ask about the high tea which I enjoyed in the library. All made right on the property, with produce from the food garden. The way they do breakfast is excellent. You order your choice of breakfast when you check in and it’s served in the morning.

I can honestly say probably one of the best places we have stayed in for a while. Highly recommend. Will definitely take my partner along for our next Joburg visit. And try and get my hands on that Africology signature scent!

Not really sure if they are open or not but the guard on the gate said we were welcome and got us a personal guided tour.

Covid has hit them hard and they were definitely closed for a couple of years. I get the feeling they are trying to get back on their feet and maybe taken the opportunity to update some displays.

We were shown specific things and didn't really get the chance to look at everything however what we learned was very informative and I definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area. Our guide was friendly and informative

Would be a great place for schools to visit.

The displays were beautifully created, the information was comprehensive and clear, and presented in a compelling and entertaining way. This was a museum designed to satisfy a wide range of museum visitors.

We had a late flight so went here to spend the day from 9-4.30. My kids are 11 and 7 and had a great time. Everything was in great repair so not sure about previous comments. We didn’t see anything broken. Lots of fun and interesting things. My 7 ur old loved the magnets, construction and soccer science. My 11 y o loved magnets electrics and music and games. Make sure you don’t miss the music and table games level we nearly did. We went around everything a few times. It was very quiet I think just one other family there, and lots of school tours which stay in their sections together so easy to avoid. Wish we had something like this where we live. The cafe food was basic but good enough as we spent the whole day there.
