This was our first stop on a 20 night tour as a family of 4. We stayed 2 nights and absolutely loved this place – safari for beginners before we went to Addo! Waking up with giraffes walking past the terrace was magical.

The staff are super friendly and really helpful. On the first night we asked for food to be left in the room for us to reheat as we arrived after the restaurant closed. We were in a self catering lodge, but actually had breakfast and early dinner in the restaurant the second day. The kids loved the upstairs bedroom in the lodge.

We did a self-drive and also the guided safari. I would recommend doing both although the road can be a bit of a challenge in a sedan. We would go back again just to see the giraffes in the morning.

We had the most amazing 3 days at Shamwari.
Stayed at Bayethe, please see my detailed review.
Our experience was absolutely incredible, beyond our expectations.
Ruan was our guide, he is exceptionally knowledgeable on all aspects of wildlife & nature, it was our great pleasure to have had 6 varied drives with him, we could not have wished for more, including all the laughs we had along the way!
Ruan is also a very talented photographer, he is a tremendous asset to both Shamwari & Bayethe.
    Hope to return one day.

The accommodation of the lighthouse villa was exceptional and extraordinary! It couldn't have been more perfect for our Honeymoon. Lin, the manager and host does an amazing job with her team at making sure all your needs are met and your stay is comfortable. Real value for money. The location and views from the villa are unparalleled. Definitely would recommend as a honeymoon or romantic destination with your partner - the whole team really went out of their way to make our stay as memorable and as special as possible.

We visited four game preserves, and this was by FAR our favorite. Here's why:
Our guide (she was a young British lady - wish I could recall her name!) was excellent. She was knowledgeable about the animals, the history, the terrain... clearly she was passionate about her field! Also this is a very large preserve, so we were able to see so many animals, including elephants, giraffe, and lions! The tour vehicle was in good condition (compared to others we were on!) and we while it was still "rustic" and "authentic," it was not so jarring as to be uncomfortable. Truly if you can only visit one, make it this game drive. It was our very best!

It’s very clear that the wellness of the birds here is a priority. A very small sanctuary hospital 🏥 with staff that volunteer to help.
Go and see the beach and lighthouse too which is up the road

Lovely easy day hike. Awesome scenery and beautiful water holes. Just lots of ticks on the hike so have your tabard ready.

It would be impossible to highlight a favorite because this place is all that and so much more! I held a bearded lizard, touched everything I was allowed to which started with holding Mia the owl when we arrived, saw more than I have in a lifetime including Jeremiah the biggest bullfrog and my mind was just blown from start to end! This place is heaven on earth for real!

Decided to take my 3 teen kids for an outdoor excursion. Decided on a visit to The Island Nature Reserve as it appeared to be safe and hikes not too technical or long. Although the afternoon was quite sunny and warm, the walks were very comfortable as almost 90% is in the shade of the coastal forest vegetation. Sadly, we did not spot any buck or animals that apparently do inhabit the forest areas.

We did a total of 3 out of the 6 trails, which was 6km out of a possible 16km if you did all 6 trails. All 6 trails loop back to the picnic area so you could spend a whole day there and have a relaxing break or meals in between a couple of walks. We paid an entrance fee of R48/person, R192 for the 4 of us, so quite pricey as we only did 3 shorter trails and was there for around 3 hours. But well worth it if you plan to make it a whole day outing. Lovely uncrowded tree shaded picnic/braai areas, clean ablutions.

We spent a lovely couple of hours walking the boardwalk at Summerstrand, with great views out to see and some interesting shops and cafes. We had been warned by the hotel not to stray too far which we did heed

This nature reserve is at the heart of Port Elizabeth where the Baakens river flows towards the ocean. It could have been a garden of Eden, but unfortunately because of neglect, what once was a pleasant park is now an unsafe zone.

I walked into the reserve on a Sunday afternoon from a parking lot near How avenue. Some locals were enjoying the view there and warned me not to go into the park alone. However, I did hike up and down to the river and "survived". It is a wonderful reserve where nature is gradually taking over man made trails and bridges.

Such a pity security is lacking.
