We arrived at Poas Volcano on our 1st day. Our flight arrived at SJO at 630am, so we had plenty of time to get to Poas Volcano National Park. We had a private driver booked in advance (for 10 day - check out my review on the driver, Danny Jimenez). You must book the entrance fee in advance because the parking attendant will ask for the barcode before you are allowed to enter. Because we got there early in the morning (around 830a) before the clouds roll over, we were blessed with a great view of the crater. You must be able to walk up to the crater for about 1/4 mile and some stairs to get to the lookout.

We just did the Coffee Estate tour. It was a great tour and very informative. I am not a coffee drinker, but I found the tour to be a great experience. I found the tour of the historic mill to be fascinating, especially compared to what a mill is today. We were there in the off season so there was no production at the time. The tour guide was friendly and very knowledgeable. We drove in from San Jose on our way to La Fortuna and it was a wonderful stop along the way

One of the staff members at Volcan Poas suggested we stop by this spot. What a treat!!! The owner is very welcoming! And he encourages all visitors to write/paint on the walls in the backroom. Great souvenirs at very good prices. The place is rather small but full of Pura Vida energy!!! Also, walk next door to the smoothie place . . . best Strawberry smoothie and Tortilla Alinada.

We were so amazed with the quality of the experience at this family owned farm! The owner provided a one on one experience that is unmatched. He is passionate about the history and qualities of this hydroponic strawberry farm.
I loved the two ox-cow hybrids and the rise in the traditional ox cart. I bucket list item for me! The strawberries are delicious! Please take the time to support this family business!

Lucky for us we went with a tour group and early. On our way out the line of cars to get in was a mile long. Got a glimpse of the crater when the clouds cleared. Trails are nice.
