Great museum for anyone interested in things with wheels! We spent a couple of hours walking through the exhibits and my kids (ages 9 and 10) were not bored at all! Beautiful facility, nicely laid out, friendly staff and well-stocked gift shop. Bridge over the track leads to some paths with sculptures, benches, water features, etc. Worth a walk around. Plan to spend lots of time here!

This is a must see when in Birmingham. It has all the elements of a great museum! It is informative, easy to follow and extremely engaging! Everyone should see this museum to learn about the struggles of minorities in our country. It is piece of history that is so intrinsic to our society.

The view is amazing!!! We went to see Vulcan but didn’t realize that the view of Birmingham would be the star of the show. The museum is really good as well

The Birmingham Museum was a mind-blowing, unexpected surprise to this art aficionado, having been to over 150 museums in the U.S. First, the noble and grand building is a work of art itself with the collection showing off its holdings exquisitely. Most every period is represented, with the second floor devoted to a stellar holding (for a museum of this size) African, Asian, Pre-Columbian & Native American work. The BMOA features some of the finest handiwork of many artists, e.g, Theodore Butler, Frank Duveneck, Henry Raeburn, Ernest Lawson, John Twachtmann - mostly pivotal American artists. The cafe lunch was terrific, and the staff at this institution could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. This is clearly one of Birmingham's treasures and makes a visit to this city a must!

A fantastic experience for any lover of baseball or history in general. It tells a great story in a fantastic setting. Birmingham may not be the first place you think of when you think of baseball, but it holds it own against any of the more famous baseball stops and this museum is part of that. The memorabilia is great, of course, but the history is wonderful as well. And unlike so many books about the subject, the museum does not end with Jackie Robinson. The museum is free admission with donations accepted. Combine this with a trip out to Rickwood and an evening game watching the hometown Barons at Regions Field and you have a perfect day.

Excellent - full of memorabilia of some of the greats in American Sports. Displays are nicely arranged. It was especially interesting to see all the unique types of sports included- archery, shooting, wheelchair rugby.

We hadn't realised the museum was closed on Sundays but a member off staff was present and kindly opened up just for us - thank you. We are not very knowledgeable of jazz music but still found the whole experience v interesting.

This place is unbelievable and so are the gentlemen who work diligently to save history! Ray has worked to save a couple of radios for us and he succeeded beyond what we thought possible. We love this place.

The Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (AEIVA) is a UAB facility that is home to the Art and Art History department and three University galleries. There is a lecture hall (64 seats, but can expand into lobby for additional seating). When you enter the building you are in the atrium/lobby area. The parking lot is by permit only, but you can obtain a free temporary parking permit in the lobby. The exhibitions and events are free. On our visit there were two galleries in use:
Mary Frances WhitfieldL /Why? from May 31 - November 23, 2019 and Hank Williams Thomas: Unbranded from May 31 - August 10, 2019

We (unknowingly) arrived on opening day. We knew of the site beforehand, but were pleasantly surprised to find that it has been renovated for viewing. They’ve done an excellent job, and for those interested in a bit of Birmingham history, the attached one room museum focuses on A.G. Gaston. It may be a lesser known name in the annals of history (outside of Birmingham at least), but it is worth the look. If you’ve come to the neighborhood already, you should absolutely stop in.
