#3 of 978 Sights & Landmarks in Kyoto
One of the most incredible sights in Kyoto with gorgeous water features (Pavilion Pond, Carp Rock), beautiful gardens, an awesome Tea House and of course The Golden Pavilion with its three styles of architecture.
... - the serene lake with temple reflecting beautifully on the surface surrounded by a zen garden, perfectly manicured trees and grounds, koi fish swimming to and fro, tea in a forest, and Buddhist site for prayer.

It is an incredible garden (actually three very different gardens linked by paths) with wonderful views out over the countryside and back down to Kyoto.
The icing on the cake was the breathtaking view of the mountains and the surrounding landscape.

I really enjoyed my visit to this temple - the views as you walk around the house are beautiful and its much less crowded than many other sites around.
This is another huge and very beautiful temple in Kyoto, a World Heritage Site.

Because we were already in northern Kyoto on a Sunday, we decided to visit this much less frequented shrine, yet another Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto.
Kamigamo Shrine, located in the northern end of Kyoto, is one of the world heritage sites that the ancient capital has.

A bit of a bus ride from the center, Daitoko-Ji is the site of many temples, four of which you can visit.
The place is not to be compared to the large sights, but definitely worth visiting for a more quiet/relaxing visit.

Despite the usual crowds, this UNESCO World Heritage site in Kyoto almost encourages thought while enjoying the simplicity of carefully arranged large rocks amidst manicured pebbles that resemble ripples of the sea.
On quite a large site the temple grounds include a very large lake which, if the weather is still, provides som amazing reflections.

The view of the gardens from the gate is simply ravishing.
The site is surrounded by a bamboo 'wall'.

... and you can enjoy its picturesque views: in spring, you can see gorgeous green maple (Ruri-Koin is full of green and quietness), and in autumn, leaves turn red and yellow and you can enjoy its wonderful view.
The house itself is small ,but the maple view, garden view are extremely beautiful.

This small garden creates a space that grows with every moment you view it .
The visitors are actually taking the views in rather than jostling for camera spots.

It is the last remnant of a style whereby you sit on a deck and garden acts as a frame for a prominent natural landmark, in this case a distant mountain.
