Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) Sapporo
There are many open-air museums like this around the world, but I can say this is one of the best I ever visited.
From traditional Japanese homes of fishermen, farmers and craftsmen, to western-style buildings built 100+ years ago, this lovely museum is a joy to anyone who enjoys history.

Hakodate Museum of Northern Peoples Hakodate
Of all the museums we visited during our trip to Hakodate, this museum was the best.
Though the museum features exhibits of northern peoples living along the Sea of Okhotsk, it mainly focuses on traditional Ainu life, such as housing, tools, clothing, jewelry, etc, used by these hunters/gatherers.
Otokoyama Sakezukuri Museum Asahikawa
There is a museum upstairs and you can watch the history of the brewery on video (in english and other languages) before taking a look at the brewery itself and try its Sake on site.
Seeing the lovely garden just outside the museum, learning the sake making process and dressing up in traditional sake makers was a lot of fun.
