- Geoffrey SDeptford, NJ192 contributionsI love whisky distilleries and this one did not disappoint (except for one thing, to be mentioned below). The location was breathtaking, in the Japanese Southern Alps, and the tour was fantastic. There's a museum of whisky, and a restaurant on site. It culminated with a great tasting.
The production capacity appeared very high, and there's a lot of barrels aging. Unfortunately there was no ability to buy a bottle of the whisky made on site. That was my only disappointment.
The bar in the visitor's center was really special. They were pouring some incredible whisky for really good prices.
This is a must-see day-trip from Tokyo.Written 9 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. However, I visited the brewery just for its sake lees ice cream, which was pretty tasty!Written 4 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Gemma42 contributionsGreat tour! Very interesting and our guide spoke excellent English. I really enjoyed learning how sake is made. The tasting was delicious and very well organised. Highly recommend. Took about 1-2 hours total.Written 19 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- alohatripperHonolulu, HI1 484 contributionsAfter we strolled Miho no Matsubara and nearby shops, we searched for a seafood lunch. Our driver took us here which was perfect -- so many seafood vendors and restos. Inside with an ocean view, we ate a perfect seafood lunch of tempera, sashimi, and sushi -- $17. I assumed that all was fresh and not frozen. Later someone told me that all the seafood, except for tuna, is most likely frozen.Written 10 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Alex IKofu, Japan51 contributionsSadoya Winery is no more than a 7 minute walk from Kofu Station (North Exit).
The winery has a lot of history and if time permits, definitely RSVP for winery tour slot.
Note: The tour is only given in Japanese, so it would help to bring a friend who understands or can translate.
The tour costs 500 JPY and includes a nice tour and historical guide which lasts approximately 30 minutes, followed by a wine tasting experience (3 glasses).
They offere grape juice for minors, drivers, and for folks who don't like wine.
They have a nice wine shop and a wine tasting room where you can purchase small samples (Cash only) and bring inside to taste. Ranging from 200 JPY~
I would recommend stopping by the winery if you have some time to spare and would like to drink some local wine, without the hassle and walk.Written 15 May 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - maritoraTokyo Prefecture, Japan4 752 contributionsThis place is said to take a 15-minute work from the nearest station Katsunuma-Budo-no-Sato by guide books, but I recommend going by taxi because the road is very hilly. It took 760 yen.
After applying on the counter in a hall, I paid 1520 yen then got a container.
It seemed that the price was up recently. It didn't need a reservation at that time.
The container is called tastevin. It looked like a shallow cup with a hanging rope, could be said a small plate too.
For a tasting with a walk around, wearing it as a necklace was convenient, but not good for clothes in white.
The wine cellar was under the basement floor. There were around 20 barrels as tables, 5 or 6 bottles were on each table.
I never thought that there was such a various type of Japanese wines. Most of them priced around 2000 yen.
It was by no means easy to taste all by alone, I exchanged information with visitors.
Finally, I was content with getting 2 bottles.Written 1 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There were at least 20 beers on tap, some regular and some seasonal. I ordered a few pints and a flight. I was impressed with all the beers I tried. I enjoyed the barley wine, and Belgian the most. Staff was friendly, I was definitely in my happy place! I liked how secluded the brewery was, driving down the small road in the middle of nowhere it was hard to believe such a large facility existed here. Definitely worth a stop if driving around the Izu Peninsula.Written 5 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Monte WWest Chester, PA26 contributionsVisited this winery last of 4 on a Sunday afternoon. The employees spoke excellent English and were very accommodating. The winery is a beautiful traditional Japanese building and on top of it the make very nice Koshu based white wines. The reds were over-oaked, but is a region for whites. The terrace is a fantastic location to savor a glass of wine.Written 22 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bertrand4 contributionsWe came to Gotemba using the train. 10:05 Kirin free shuttle picked us at the train station. We arrived there few minutes before our 10:30 tour. Signed up, got English audio device.
We were invited to wait in a room before the tour where few trophies are on display. The tour started on time, very informative. It was in Japanese, but the guide was very helpful and let us know which section to listen on the audio guide.
After the tour, the tasting... and the gift shop where you can buy whiskey, glasses, chocolates and other products.
Very nice visit, we appreciate the efforts to make the tour accessible to non Japanese speakers.Written 30 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This brewery has a long history of making excellent sake. We were fortunate enough to get a tour of the facilities before the tasting (¥300 for 4 kinds). The staff are super nice which is why I gave them a perfect score!Written 31 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KeizoKawasaki, Japan1 575 contributionsI participated in the guided tour for 4(reservation is necessary) reduced from original 8 due to corona virus. It lasted one and a half hours including the factory tour, a vineyard visit and 6 kinds of glass wine tasting at the end.( about us$27).
The explanation was very informative(sorry, no English). They have also admission free very first winery in Japan now converted to museum. You can enjoy wine tasting at wineshop(Luch plate was not served due to corona)
Katsunuma Budokyo is the nearest JR Station and from there you can walk down for about 30-40minuts to the winery seeing many vineyards. Local bus servie is available but not recommendable as the frequency is less specially on weekdays.
This is the famous winery which started wine business for the first time in Japan and Even Showa Emperor visited twice(while he was a prince and 25 years later as an emperor). Though I am a wine lover but frankly speaking do not like Japanese wine(much improved but still)so much as Japanese whiskky and beer.Written 1 October 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
I visited this winery twice. First time I visited this winery during Yamanashi wine festival. I drank their sparkling wine and feel it's so wonderful!! Then I visit again next year. I spend 2~3hrs for factory wine tour and try all other different wines. I found that it's a winery that has both modernized wine automation production and traditional wine production. The wine ranges from the canned wine sold to convenient stores to high-end delicate low-volume award-winning wine. It's worth visiting if you come to Isawacho Onsen.Written 25 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. there is a French style restaurant with very good value for a nice lunch. highly recommendable !
the tour is disappointing here too, but that was by now not a surprise anymore...Written 16 October 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
