What travellers are saying
- Thomas KCopenhagen, Denmark858 contributionsI had a guided tour at the museum. Entry is $5, and on top of that a tip for the guide. Museum is the most important in Zambia. It tells the story from the pre stoneage till current. It has a big collection from Dr Livingstone including clothes, books and letters, and tells his story. The guide was good and had many interesting anecdotes on what we saw. Well worth the tip. The museum has a nice gift shop with very fair prices.Written 25 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ellen C1 contributionWhat an inspiring place this is! Run by a family of artists, taking care of local
community by giving art classes. Some really interesting art works and a really nice tour by the daughter of the artists who is an amazing artist herself.Written 20 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The origin of the local railway with a local sawmill operation is detailed, a separate room with a focus on the latter. While the information is useful for context, the locomotives and other rail cars in the yard are the star attractions, including a first class carriage of Rhodesia Railways. A chap gave us a tour. We were the only visitors at the time. Depending on your degree of interest, about 30-40 minutes would cover it.Written 9 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Terry MHamilton, Canada4 647 contributionsBoth museums are part of the same $15 US entry fee, probably a bit steep in all candour. A guide took us around. There is ample written material on both museums, especially the latter. The rail cars are the best feature re the railway portion though the area’s railway history is worth reading. While thee are some items to view—like a torah, sundry gravestones or cornerstones—most of the Jewish sector focus is the original arrival of Jews as traders, eventually developing communities, building synagogues, etc, the role of several men [and some women] detailed in panels.Written 9 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JoseWestwoud, The Netherlands2 contributionsThe building not so visible but the gallery was really nice with good paintings. We were guided perfectly by one of the staff members. He was explaining a lot and with very good information. There were some artworks outside as well.
There was an exhibition about understanding cultures, which motivates you to look beyond what is on the surface.
We really enjoyed it and recommend everyone to go there.Written 25 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
