According to UNESCO, Pergamon was founded in the 3rd century BC and taken over by the Romans in 133 BC. Its location is at the crossroads between Europe and the Middle East. It became an important cultural, scientific and political metropolis. Area is quite expansive and requires lots of walking. The relief panels from the Pergamon Altar and other fragments were moved to Berlin in 1879 by agreement between the Ottoman Empire and Germany. To protect the antique structure during World War II, it was moved to a bunker near the city zoo. The Soviet Union claimed the Pergamon Altar after the end of the war, moving it to St. Petersburg. It was relocated to Berlin in 1958.

WOW and the history is really neat as well. I can't get over the size, especially knowing it was constructed by hand.

During the Roman Period, many important structures were built or further developed in Pergamon including the Asclepion Sanctuary, a well-known healing center. The patient would be examined by priests doctors (Asklepiades). Patients who were about to die and pregnant women weren’t accepted. The main healing elements were incubation in the portico and sleeping in the sanctuary. The sacred spring still flows today.

This is a fascinating g place that requires loads of time and patience.h There are Esentially three levels to this site.....a Lower Acropolis Level, a Middle Acropolis Level and an Upper Acropolis Level. I would reccomend doing this trip on a day with good weather as the Upper Acroolis Cable Car Station will shut early if it is too windy and visibility poor. Also it is recommended that you have good walking shoes as a lot of the terrain can tend to be a little uneven.

All the main attraction spots can be seen in a day, but leave very early in the morning if you want to see all the sites. My advice is start at the Lower Section and then take a cable Car to the Upper Acropolis. You can then walk down to Middle Section before taking the Cable Car back to the Lower Section. Also bear in mind the light and glare from the sun in bright sunlight. I would advise taking plenty of drinking water. There is a toilet at the Lower Acropolis. But bear in mind other tour groups as well.

We drove here on the way down from Bergama ancient city, unfortunately it was closed, but looked nice from outside.
While in Bergama city you can drive to the summit to see the city including the acropolis site, theatre, market, temple, all in one place and the Spa, and Red Church are within 5 minutes drive from the summit.

I wanted to go to a sauna and this place included hamam as well. It was nice experience. Once you check in, they ask if you want to have extra services which I declined, but overall an inexpensive solution if you wanted to give it a try. This is the men's side, since men and women have different entrances and different sections. I was shown a room to change and a thin towel (pestemal) provided to wrap around your waist to cover your privates.. and you do leave your clothes in that changing room since it is reserved for you. You are also given a key to a safe box to put your valuables in.

Once you are ready, you can go in to the first section which is warmer where they have the restrooms. Once you pass that area the hamam section which seemed warmer than the first section.. There was no one but me for the whole hamam!!! You basically sit next to a fountain and wash yourself!!

The lighting is natural from the ceiling, which makes it mystical. Given it's historical background, it looked not old but mystical with marble all around..

And, once you are done with the washing, there is another door to the sauna.. Typical wooden sauna and i was sitting on my own again... Once the sauna session is over went back to hamam section and went out to get more towels and all done.. You can stay as long as you want, and it seems that you can have good social group to socialize as well. I didn't ask for a massage but it was optional along with scrubbing etc.

    I would go back again.
