What travellers are saying
- John F21 contributionsGreat attraction and free. Eerie sounds made by waves pushing air along man made chambers in sidewalk. Just sit and become absorbed by the haunting rhythms, dictated by the movement of the waves.Written 30 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RBonTheLakeYork, SC660 contributionsThe LED lights turn on after sunset and it’s cool to watch. It’s worth staying a bit after sunset to see it in the dark. This is located right by the sea organ. We had a beautiful sunset there also. Definitely worth going to since it is a unique experience.Written 25 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Wayne4 contributionsIt's a lovely place to visit, better in the evening in my opinion and many nice places to eat, especially, EAT ME! (Name of restaurant). Lovely atmosphere, service is great, the food is delicious and everything cooked beautifully. If you like seafood try the Monkfish or the Octopus salad.....you can thank me later ;)
Just outside the perimeter of the old town walls you have Butlers Gourmet, which although slightly more expensive has also a great atmosphere and amazing food. The meat platter is the one to go for as a family, two different meat steaks, tuna steak, pasta, fries and baked potatoes. Two of everything and generous portion.
Now on to the thing that I didn't like and for me which is personal. We have a Chow-Chow dog, yes they are cute...all furry and look like a cross between a Lion and Bear, even cuter as puppies. They suffer in the heat, and in the evenings you may see the Gypsies making them wear sunglasses whilst they play music for your attention. Please do not support this by giving your money, it's animal cruelty.Written 23 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And the coowner or the waiter was AMAZING! Dude knew what we wanted and the service was exceptional! We had wine tasting with greatbtable service and each wine tasting comes with a plate of cheese and ham and other stuff. Each wine was explained in detail and great info and tips on what to expect. We left very pleased and bought some homeWritten 20 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- soinicLux.2 921 contributionsLarge promenade with some trees in the middle, ideal if you are looking for shadow in the July heat.
On one end there is the university and small yacht port on the other side you'll find the sea organ 🎶Written 1 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Saint Donat, no longer a church, is covering part of the site. However the “pillar of shame” still stands toward the back as well as the wall adjoining where the Tempe to Venus was originally.Written 12 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - dese2Auburn, NY3 635 contributionsGlad we passed by this historically significant spot in Zadar.
The Rennaissance Five Well Square is surrounded by the medieval city wall and the Captain's Tower.
The supporting wall on the east is the entrance to the Queen Jelena Madije Park so be sure to take the steps up for another good spot in Zadar.Written 28 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Everything that has ever mattered in Zadar, since the medieval period, happened or was heard of at the People's Square. This is where life happens. It is a small square, but very well organized and with lots of restaurants and shops around. Narodni trg assumed the role of the city’s main square after the Roman forum fell into disuse.
Among the sights of Zadar, you will find the City Guard, which dates back to 1562 and at the top there is a clock tower dating from the 19th century.
The Gradska Loža (City Lodge/Town Loggia) where municipal decisions were once made is situated across from City Guard. Today set behind glass, it functions as an exhibition space.
As an aside, we only spent two nights in Zadar – in hindsight, we could have used another day. We really enjoyed our time here, Zadar is one of Dalmatia’s larger cities, but it did not feel that way, and parking was affordable (rate increases during the summer, we visited in May). It also has a long history with lots of interesting architecture. First settled by the Illyrians, the Romans, then Venetians, heavily bombed during WWII and held under siege during the Homeland War.
From the People's Square, paths lead in all directions, but take the time to grab a coffee.

It was built close to the Roman forum where remnants are still seen. Some remnants were used to build the church and can be seen near the base of the walls
On the evening we visited there was a light and music show which highlighted the beautiful acoustics of the churchWritten 30 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Inside, you can see the Permanent Exhibition of Religious Acts which you will appreciate even if you’re not religious because of its spellbinding history. The walls are awash with beautiful paintings. Well worth viewing if in the area.Written 18 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
