I did the trip to the Acatenango volcano as part of a guided tour (required) which included an overnight stay at the base camp, about 80% of the way to the top. The hike to the top of Acatenango is very strenuous, but the experience and views at the top are worth EVERY step and breath. One can see and hear the Fuego volcano erupt periodically into spectacular light and sound shows. The sunrise experience is like no other. Make sure to accept the walking sticks given to you at the start, you WILL need them. And, carry LOTS of warm clothing, for it is COLD at the top, no matter the season.

This hike, although only moderately steep, requires some sustained effort for a long time to keep up with the guide. (unless you get a horse) I was nearly maxxed out of breath at some points. You should not underestimate this and bring enough water (you can also buy at the bottom and (for extra cost) at a shop halfway up). Recommend morning hike to avoid afternoon heat and/or rain.

At the top, good views, pic ops, and some warm vents to roast marshmallows if you like. You do not go as far as the volcano top, only to a ridge far below it next to a lava plateau. Return down a partially-different route, sliding down a moderately-steep incline through deep volcanic dirt to break your fall.

Ok, this needs to be a thing. Wake up and drink a cup of what tastes like chocolate tea, full of antioxidants and all things good. Cool place!

I climbed the stairs and hiked to the top of the mountain. The top can be crowded, but there is absolutely no dearth of excellent views and photo-ops. The sprawling Antigua city can be clearly seen. There are other activities done at the top, including yoga, meditation, pilates, and other outdoor activities. The area is safe and well-patrolled, just beware of your surroundings, use common sense, and guard your belongings.

Really cool museum to visit. It is more like 6 different museums: one for silver, one for chocolate, one of the ruins of the church and its relics and crypts, one of claywork and candles, one of architecture that had a 'then and now' photograph exhibit to show old and current photos of places in Antigua and in the capitol, and the Vical museum, which had pottery, urns and figurines from ancient times (like 2000 and 3000 years ago!) alongside modern pieces that take inspiration or 'mirror' the ancient works of art. This last museum was a real treat! The space was amazing, the lighting was proper and the pieces were breathtaking. Highly recommend this museum to all Antigua visitors.

Central plaza is quite lovely and great place to meet after exploring the city on foot. It's safe to roam and soak up the culture in Antiqua. So beautiful and great vibe.

I can't tell you why I like this arch so much. After all, I have seen thousands in my lifetime, many bigger and many higher, but none prettier than this one. It blends in perfectly with the surrounding buildings and is worth seeking out on any trip to Antigua.

Had an incredible solo-brunch date at this gorgeous farm. The ham and cheese omelette was so tasty, came with all these fabulous sides, a salad that made me feel healthier than I had in weeks, and attentive service. Great wifi- posted up for an hour long meeting that never dropped.

With a nice cone shape and fairly close to Antigua, Volcan Agua will show up in many of your vacation photographs. You could do worse.

I'm a sucker for visiting churches, and this is a good place to wander and reflect. And get out of the sun.

Perfect place to get dressed up and take some lovely photos, feel like you're back in time and get inside some classic colonial ruins.

Loved the history of the church. We were able to visit inside and pray. Much to learn and the architecture was awesome

Great tour and bracelet making class. Instructors are very patient and speak great English. Learned a lot about textiles from all over Guatemala. Highly recommend if you’re in the nearby Antigua area.
