We had a very nice guided tour by a very passionste local guide (Manolo). Worth spending 1 to 2 hours there. Up high landscape is beautiful. You’ll get different insights into Inca culture.

Amazing view from the top, and a great warm up for all the stairs on the Inca Trail. Not for the faint of heart though, lots of steep drop offs.

ALQA is hands down the coolest place I have ever been to. The vibes were truly phenomenal. Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic coffee, fantastic wine, fantastic food. Truly a special place and the folks who work there and run it are magical people. It is a must see. I didn’t even get a chance to tour the museum. Just went several times for the drinks food atmosphere and people.

This was a highlight of our trip to Peru. A very great place to stay, as well as the meal that was served for this experience was top notch. Got a chance to see guinea pigs (in their pens) and was able to learn about the local customs for celebrations. The meal took place at shaded picnic tables. Far more than one could eat. The hosts of the tour and of the cooking were very gracious and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge.

Our visit to Pumamarca was a highlight. We had our taxi driver drive us up to the ruins and drop us off there in the morning. There was only one other couple there at the time and we had a wonderful time hiking around the ruins and taking in the view. Then we walked back to town following the trail along the mountain which was also amazing. Had lunch at Sunshine Cafe in Ollantaytambo. It was a wonderful way to spend the morning.

The Patacancha valley is high up the Andes at a great elevation but is incredibly beautiful. There are native communities of people living up there, who are very friendly. It is worth a visit to get a taste of the rural life.

It is quite a mission to walk along the road to see this bridge and also to cross it is not for the fainthearted - but worth it! The deeper value of this bridge makes it a important place

My fiancé and I trekked the Inca Quarry trail as there were no more permits left for the classic Inca trail by the time we booked. However, this was an amazing alternative hike which I am so glad that we did! It was so beautiful and had archeological sites as well as a Sun Gate and Tombs to visit along the way, too. The main highlight for me was the fact that during our 2 1/2 day hike, we only saw 2 other couples on the path (which was during the morning on the first day). The rest of the time it was just our little group of 5 (which included the guide, too!) hiking in the Andean Mountains! We then got to experience the Inca Rail to Machu Picchu town and go through the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu, too!

The hike wasn’t too strenuous (we’re both fairly fit) but the altitude took it out of us slightly on the second day. Also watch out for when you are descending as it’s quite uneven gravel and I did get a few grazes!

You don’t get the tag of saying you did the ‘classic’ Inca trail which is further in distance, covers more archeological sites and the terrain varies more. However if you’re looking for something a little more personalised then this is your trip!

    100% would recommend this hike!

Very nice people teaching kids how to pour chocolate into tablets. for reasonable price kids can do it themselves and take the chocolate bars with them at the end. They explain the process of the cacao from start to end, and also have a little shop with many good products. You need aprox 1 hr availability for the activity.

Interesting point for those who like ancient puzzling stonework. Famous waka and the "portal". Very small site. It is NOT in walkable distance from Ollantaytambo. It is also better to ride from/to Pachar than to walk. Visit it if you have extra time in the area. Not an independent destination.

I did this hike on July 15th with no idea of how to start. I asked at ollantaytambo town but looks that most of the people doesn't as much about this trek.

I ask some mini vans that leaves from the market in ollantaytambo and fortunately they give us some idea of how to get there.

First, you can take this mini van from ollantaytambo to pachar bus stop (5min) then you have to cross the bridge there, just follow the car's route or the rail,
there are some signs but not as much so just continue along the route, you will find other site (looks inka) but not sure about the time it was built. This site is called *Ñaupa Iglesia* , there is old painting on one wall too. You must go until Socma village. There is a route you have to take going up, you can use your google maps to guide you however there is no route specify.

From pachar to socma village took me about 2 hours then from socma to Perolniyoc waterfall around 1 hour to 2 hours approx. This would be acording your pace. I get some Chicha (inka drink made by corn) while in Socma so you just have to follow the route from socma village to Perolniyoc Waterfall, this part of the hike was strenuous since it was up hill there are up and downs but the last part is harder.

In general was a great experience and is a hike with no so much people as you can see in a regular trips.

So recommended if you want to have a different hiking experience or adventure.

:) i must go again, i missed the inka site in Perolniyoc.
