- 982rodneylGrande Prairie, Canada159 contributionsThe Citadel is. A well preserved site with an excellent on site museum. For anyone interested in archeology or history this is a must when in AmmanWritten 24 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Sheila A7 contributionsI'm not a 'car' person but was very pleasantly surprised by this museum. It was well laid out and had some beautiful cars. Really interesting.Written 1 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
I stayed in front of the amphitheater and it was wonderful to enjoy it every day from the hotel terrace (Zaman ya Zaman). The hotel is plain (2*) but of a good quality/price and a good breakfast. The visit to Downtown in Amman is worth it especially for the amphitheater, but also for "enjoying" the street life of this city. Yet, ... merchants will try to cheat you in many of the sites that you enter, ... I am not sure that it is the best place to buy something. ESPECIALLY AVOID the coffee shop in the photo, in the same Al-Hashimi st.,... scam guaranteed,... they tried it twice with me :( Even so, taking a walk through downtown is an experience that deserves the sorrow.Written 21 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - PepyMassoSofia, Bulgaria312 contributionsSoak up the Orient 😀
Vivid, colourful, exotic, smells of spices, roasted nuts, chestnuts, corn and dozens of stalls selling sweets, confectioners, ice cream, toys on one side and shops on the other, selling souvenirs, clothes, fresh juices, parfumes, shining gold shops., cafés, restaurants, old buildings... Al Balad is a busy place, full of people and cars. Strangely enough, all this hustle and bustle is a kind of relaxing. Do not miss The Duke's Diwan - the oldest building in the heart of Amman, Roman theatre, Hashem restaurant, king Faisal avenue with beautiful tall palm trees. Enjoy during the day, also at night 😀Written 24 February 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Myo MCoquitlam, Canada20 917 contributionsNot about the political or social history of the country, but mostly about its "archaeological history" is this museum with not too many but a "fairly impressive number" of artifacts from different periods of the country's history (such as the Three Kingdoms Period & the Nabataean Period) to go around and see in a number of rooms with the last one being that for the famous Dead Sea Scrolls where on display is also the jar or such in which the scrolls were found (although as seen in the glass case are like "2 long-shaped" ones) & an info display of their discovery. And apart from archaeological items, it was good to learn here some interesting facts like that the people in this area already had a "water engineering" system some thousands of years ago & that the area in the ancient times was like a "trading confluence" of 3 continents (Asia, Europe & Africa), and also nicely set up in one room is like a "bedouin living room" (mostly a carpet with utensils & such around it as such can likely be found in a bedouin hut or tent).
And although not in the Old Town itself, just outside this museum on one side is like one end of a "big street" which goes through the Old Town with plenty of miscellaneous small shops (not much for souvenirs but mostly for all kinds of everyday items), and actually just a "straight walk" along that street for about 10 minutes through the Old Town and about another 5 minutes past it is just the site of Roman Amphitheater ("to the right" from the big street with an area like a medium-sized square between the street & that "high structure").Written 16 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - born2travelitCesena, Italy16Â 056 contributionsInteresting area of Amman pretty much requalified and made more youngsters friendly. We decided to spend an evening strolling around after reading its beauties on our Lonely Planet but we have been a bit disappointed, maybe we expected too muchWritten 17 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Francesco GZurich, Switzerland845 contributionsSuch a beautiful and unexpected surprise! This mosque is open to non-Muslims. The staff has been very kind and the mosque itself is really worth a visit. It’s huge and I recommend to visit early when not crowdedWritten 19 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- Michael M3 contributionsI visited the Cave & Al reqeem ( People of the Cave) it a mysterious caves where back in time these people who slept for a few centuries woke up to find a different world around them etc, its worth a visit its free entry 😉Written 11 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- touristachandlers ford155 contributionsBy Amman standards this is a largish mall (more of a typical UK city mall in size) - all the usual international brands and a Carrefour supermarket. Food court on top floor has all the usual fast food eateries. Clean and air conditioned so nice for a break from mid day heat. It cost us 3 dinars metered taxi from W hotel to get there.Written 19 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- LeanneMKSeattle, WA59 contributionsWe visited this site, and were so grateful to have had a guide with us to explain the history and the folklore of the area. The grounds were extensive, with many different structures to explore. The views of the surrounding areas were breathtaking as we went late afternoon and watched the sunset. A lovely afternoon adventure.Written 8 December 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- palawanismyhomePalawan Island, Philippines20Â 431 contributionsThis area is gradually taking over from Rainbow street as the place to visit for bars, restaurants, art galleries and just generally wandering around. The two streets that should be visited are located by Paris Square (which is actually a circle). The place really comes alive at night as there are few visitors before then. I really enjoyed the street art on walls and on buildingsWritten 16 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- LegalRover2Â 656 contributionsThe Royal Tank Museum is definitely worth a visit. It is one of the few tank museums in the world and has an extensive collection of tanks, armored vehicles, and machinery since 1915. The museum is relatively new as it opened in 2018. There is more than 20K sq m of exhibition space and 13 halls - impressively huge space. The museum is located in King Abdullah II Park Al Muqabalain Street so it's not in the main tourist areas of Amman. You may need a driver/Careem to get you there as you may get lost in Amman traffic. We went on a national holiday so we didn't have to pay the entrance fee. Not sure how much it usually is. Highly recommend a visit to this little known gem!Written 11 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- MusToronto, Canada116 contributionsNice street for walk. There are shops, restaurants and cafes. It’s nice at night, and it’s family oriented kind of place.
I went a bit early in the evening and was pretty empty, maybe people go there late at night. If you’re in Amman and have time it’s worth checking out.Written 25 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - Myo MCoquitlam, Canada20 917 contributionsAmong the "3 desert castles" visited, the "most enjoyable" was this one for its "most indoor space" with two levels and multiple rooms to enter especially on the 2nd level from which there's also a good view of the "inner courtyard" in the middle outdoor part of the Castle, and yes I did a "complete walk" around the Castle on the 2nd level (whereas the other two being Qusayr Amra with just a "cramped interior" & Qasr Al-Azraq with a sizeable interior but which is pretty much just an "empty outdoor" with only the peripheral parts along the walls to enter inside). Also, I would say this castle is the only one among the three with an actual outward appearance of a desert castle for its not-too-big but "sufficient size" and location in a desert (whereas Qusayr Amra being just a small one-storied building & Qasr Al-Azraq with its location not in a desert but in an urban area).
Just about a 1.5-hour drive from Amman, this was the first castle visited followed by Amra (at just another 10-minute drive) & Al-Azraq (about a half-hour drive from Amra), all for about 55 JD to my hotel manager who was the driver (which yes was a pretty good deal for transportation to all 3 castles and back to Amman).Written 8 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - born2travelitCesena, Italy16Â 056 contributionsThis is for sure one of the highlights in a visit of Amman in order to understand properly the ancient history of this amazing city.
Located inside the Citadel and with a free entry, it's worth a visitWritten 17 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
